Family Adventure Ahead

Adventure Ahead - Baby Announcement

The time has come for my next big adventure! With just a short while before my new sister gets here I’ve decided to take a little blogging break to spend time with my family. I don’t know when exactly I’ll be back, but don’t worry, I’ll be sure to share the good news of the newest member of my family when she comes.

And incase you still need a dose of my happy adventures while I’m away, be sure to follow me on Facebook & Instagram where I’m sure to post some fun in the meantime.

You can catch up on my journey to becoming a big brother with these previous blog posts:

And just for fun, take a guess on the date you think my sister will arrive in the comments below and we’ll see who guesses right! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Party for a Horse

Throwing a party for a horse

What’s better than watermelon on a hot summer day? I’ll tell you what….

Throwing a party for a horse

…a party for a horse! Not just any horse, but my pal Willis! See way back last year he got a pretty bad leg injury in the pasture (here we are watching a time-lapse video of his serious wound, and don’t worry, I spared you the close-up details). Since he’s about to turn 30 years old this year….and finally over his injury, we decided to throw a party to celebrate!

Throwing a party for a horse

Everyone on the farm pitched in to help Willis heal, myself included. I was entertainment for him when he was stuck inside for months, and I helped keep him company on his daily walks.

Throwing a party for a horse

After some food and reminiscing about how far Willis has come, we all headed out to the barn to see the big guy himself.

Throwing a party for a horse

Willis’ owner, and even the vet who helped save him along with everyone else at the farm came out to celebrate.

Throwing a party for a horse

Willis got a big “carrot cake” and lots of love since we’re all so happy to see him recovered.

Throwing a party for a horse

Even Minnow was excited for the party, although he may have been a bit jealous he didn’t get a carrot cake too.

Throwing a party for a horse

Finally time to relax, since Mr. Willis is going to be just fine now. You hear that Willis? No more injuries, because this dog can’t take another one!

Do you throw your animals parties to celebrate anything?Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

The Dogs Before Me

In the 6 years that I have known my mom and dad it’s hard for me to imagine that before I came along there were other dogs. Like lots of other dogs! Crazy right?

Well ok, technically I’m the very first dog for my dad, but my mom….she’s had many adventures with the dogs before me. So today since it’s #throwbackthursday I thought it would be fun to share some of those dogs that came before me. Because you know what, I’m not so different from them.

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Deacon // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom started her love of dogs at a very young age. Here she is with one of the firsts, a rescue dog named Deacon.

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Sneakers // Ammo the Dachshund

If you fast forward to 1991 – my mom’s family rescued Sneakers. She was a golden mix, and if you look closely you can see her two front paws were white, as if she was wearing sneakers. She went on to be a 4-H dog and even earned her Canine Good Citizen certification.

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Sneakers & Jack // Ammo the Dachshund

But see, my mom loved dogs so much that she wanted a dog to call her very own. So after years of pleading she became the owner of her very first dog, a rescued black labrador retriever named Big Jack Attack. (Jack for short).

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Jack // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom tells me stories of how Jack was a big lovable bear. He literally would attack you for kisses when you came in the door (sounds a little bit like me too). The more stories I hear about my mom’s life with Jack, the more I can’t help but think we were pretty darn similar.

While Jack passed away in 2006, I know that his memory continues to live on in many of the things that I still do today. I only wish I could have met him, because something tells me we would have been great friends.

There are many many more stories I could share about the dogs before me, but we’ll have to save that for another time. Now it’s your turn to tell me, what sort of fun memories did you have of your beloved furry friends? Ammo the Dachshund

2013 Chincoteague Pony Penning

So, as most of you know my mom left me home last week while she went on a fantastical adventure with two of my favorite ponies, Minnow and Boomerang, to Chincoteague Island for the 88th Annual Pony Penning.

They got to do amazing things like check out the wild pony round-up, swim, and auction – and they even got to perform all week at the Chincoteague Pony Centre.

My mom took some amazing pictures, so even though I wasn’t there – her photos make me feel like I was! You can check them all out HERE.

But I was most excited to hear about how my ponies did in their big performances, especially Boomerang who did an amazing job on his very FIRST debut – I’m pretty sure everyone was super impressed with the bean bag sitting skills that I taught him.

Even my special pony Minnow did an amazing job painting some beautiful pictures that were auctioned off after each show – with part of the money going to help local animal rescue groups!

The ponies will have their own recap of all their adventures on their blog soon!

And while you may think I just spent my week at home like this:

I actually had quite a few adventures of my own at home with dad! But those will have to wait for another post!

But you can check out all the fun my ponies had on their facebook page, and soon on their blogAmmo the Dachshund

The Year in Pup Culture, Starring Ammo!

Ok, well maybe I won’t be the “star” per say, but I am in fact going to be on an upcoming television show on Animal Planet this month!

I bet you didn’t know you were in the presence of a celebrity! In fact, I’ve actually been on national television several times before.

First a clip of my pal Minnow and me aired on Animal Planet’s America’s Cutest Dogs:

Then in 2010 a clip of me and my girlfriend, Cricket, appeared on Animal Planet’s America’s Cutest Cats:

Set to air on Saturday, December 22 9PM (ET/PT) a clip of me and my partner in crime, Minnow, will appear on the show THE YEAR IN PUP CULTURE.

It’s an action-packed hour of non-stop, over-the-top cuteness (probably because I’ll be in it). THE YEAR IN PUP CULTURE looks back at the defining moments of 2012 as only Animal Planet can — with puppies! These adorable pups reenact the most memorable moments of the year, including scenes from top blockbuster movies and ripped-from-the headline bits. If these moments piqued public interest in 2012, they are getting “puppified” in the cutest hour on television.

So set your DVR’s, ready the popcorn, and be on the lookout for a short clip of me and my pony friend!

And don’t worry, incase you miss it – I’ll be sure to record it and share with everyone! Ammo the Dachshund

All Natural Chincoteague Island Pet Treats to Howl For

It’s official, my mom is back from her trip to Chincoteague Island, Virginia with my pal Minnow the Painting Pony! Mom and Minnow travel to the island once a year for the annual Chincoteague Pony Penning Week. During the last week in July the wild ponies of Assateague are rounded up, swum over to Chincoteague, and then many of the new foals are auctioned off to keep the wild herd at a manageable number.

While the swim and auction are exciting (or so I hear since I’ve never been), Minnow is there to Paint and Perform every evening at the Chincoteague Pony Centre . I hear he draws quite a crowd.

Sadly the town of Chincoteague is quite pony friendly – but not quite as dog friendly. Dogs aren’t allowed in any of the hotels, and not even in the only park on the island. So each year I spend the week at home with my dad, counting the days until mom returns.

Ammo the Dachshund - Pony Cookie - Howl Naturale

Even though the island doesn’t welcome us pooches with open arms there is one thing I thoroughly enjoy about mom visiting the island without me…..her trip to the dog and pony bakery called Howl Naturale.

Ammo the Dachshund - Pony Cookie - Howl Naturale

Mom brought me home two natural dog cookies this time, one in the shape of a pony and the other looked like a lucky horse shoe.

Ammo the Dachshund - Pony Cookie - Howl Naturale

These tasty treats maybe, just maybe, make up for the fact that mom left me home all week.

You can fetch your own tasty treats from Howl Naturale online HERE. Also make sure you check out all the neat photos my mom took from the Chincoteague Pony Swim and Auction HERE, they make me feel like I was there with them!

My pony & me

There is one thing on the farm that gets my tail wagging more than anything else.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

His name is Minnow, and he’s my very special pony.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

My love for him is so great, that I can’t help but go bounding through the fields in excitement!

ammo the dachshund and minnow

Sometimes when I hang out with Minnow I like to pretend I’m a pony too. Nibbling grass all day long.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

Then other times I get bored of being a pony and I like to do dog things with Minnow.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

Minnow’s not so great at playing fetch though, but I can still pretend.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

At least I don’t have to worry about him stealing the stick from me – he’s really great at sharing like that.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

Sometimes I just love spending so much time with Minnow that I really don’t want to leave.

ammo the dachshund and minnow

I secretly always hope that I get to have a sleepover with him, because mom doesn’t even notice me out in the pasture since I look just like all the other ponies. A boy can dream can’t he?

Muddy Buddies

Last night when I was hanging out on the farm I decided that the ponies were looking a bit dusty. With all the rain we had on Tuesday the ponies had taken it upon themselves to roll like little piggies in all the mud puddles. I have to say I was a bit jealous I missed out on the fun.

ammo the dachshund brushing ponies

So, I did what any amazing farm dog would do, I decided to give my pony friends a good brushing.

ammo the dachshund brushing ponies

I readied my brush box with all the necessary tools.

ammo the dachshund brushing ponies

And I picked out the very best brushes for the job.

ammo the dachshund brushing ponies

All was going well until Minnow reminded me that I don’t have hands, nor am I tall enough to reach much past the ponies’ knees. Sigh. You win this one minnow……. you win this one.
