Never one to pass up the opportunity to test out a cookie, I found the Canidae treats oh so yummy.

In fact, I think these cute animated gifs of me trying my hardest to get mom to feed me more Canidae treats, by displaying my best cute puppy faces and acrobatics, pretty much speak for how much I enjoyed the cookies….

Dog Clicker App Review & Giveaway

Disclaimer: This review and giveaway is brought to you by Smart Dog Clicker.

Since it’s Birthday week here on the blog I’ve packed in as many fun giveaways and goodies as I could for all of my faithful readers!

Smart Dog Clicker App Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I recently got the chance to test out the Smart Dog Clicker App for iPhone. Most of you probably already know that I’m an avid fan of clicker training and my mom has been using this training method since day 1 with me.

Now if you’re unfamiliar with clicker training you can brush up on the basics, but essentially the Smart Dog Clicker App puts a “clicker” conveniently in your hands without the need to carry around one in your pocket.

For people and dogs who prefer the mechanical sound of a clicker when training this is useful, for me personally mom usually uses a click of her tongue – making it not totally necessary for her to carry one around for training on the fly.

Smart Dog Clicker App Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

With the Smart Dog Clicker App you’ll still need to provide your own treats for any training sessions with your dog, but at least you won’t have to carry around a bulky clicker.

Smart Dog Clicker App Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The elite version of the app also comes with tips for teaching your dog 32 different tricks.

Smart Dog Clicker App Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Some of the tricks are pretty basic, like sit and and stay.

But there are a few more complex tricks like playing dead, bow, and yawn. Full disclosure though, I did wish the steps were a bit more detailed and perhaps in a step by step guide.

As you can see I’m already an expert at playing dead, but there are a few on the list I might have to try.

The Smart Dog Clicker is available from the iTunes App store for iPhone in a free version (which includes ads and a limited list of tricks) and an elite version for $1.99 which includes no ads and the full list of tricks.

Whenever it’s time to work on training the ponies I’m never too far as I love offering encouraging words to my ponies as they learn new skills and tricks.

My buddy Boomerang here is learning how to be more comfortable on a teeter totter.

Sometimes though, the ponies learn best by watching someone else do it first. So I offer up my skills, and tell Boomerang to watch this as I plod effortlessly across the teeter totter. In theory, watching someone else do it helps my ponies to realize it’s not as scary as it seems.

Although it would also help if Boomerang was actually paying attention instead of sneaking grass behind me! Sigh. Ammo the Dachshund

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My new friends over at The Eclectic Hound sent me over this adorable martingale collar to take for a spin.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Now Martingale Collars are all the rage right now, but did you know that they were originally designed for sight hounds, such as greyhounds and whippets, whose heads are smaller than their necks and can easily slip out of traditional buckle collars.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The same can be true for Dachshunds and more and more trainers recently have been recommending them for dogs of all breeds and sizes because of their safety.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Designed to slip over your dog’s head, this collar from the Eclectic Hound should then be adjusted so you can fit 1 -2 fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The martingale loop, which functions by gently tightening around the dog’s neck when pressure is applied to the leash, makes it so your dog can’t back out of the collar.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Eclectic Hound Shop has so many fun collar designs it can be hard to decide which one to get (or get them all!), but ultimately I chose this preppy alligator design, because I’m pretty sure it makes me look extra tough. Or preppy I guess depending on how you look at it!

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So if you’d like your dog to look preppy and tough at the same time too, you can save 15% off your next purchase at The Eclectic Hound with code AMMO15.

Adventures in Home Improvement

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I took a trip with my family to my favorite dog friendly home improvement store.

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

As with many trips to the home improvement store, I wouldn’t exactly call it thrilling.

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

Shopping for all the things necessary for a future kitchen remodel at my house is enough to bore a dog to sleep (as if my big yawn wasn’t clue enough).

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

Eventually I convinced mom and dad that if they let me out of the cart our trip would be much easier – since I’m great at sniffing out deals!

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

Little did I know that once out of the cart mom would make me practice my sit/stays and healing. I guess a working dog’s work is never done!

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

Eventually we made our way over to the kitchen appliances and I was ecstatic to see that the new trend in fridges were easy to reach and easy to open – perfect for little dogs with short little legs!

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

Despite my desperate pleas that we must upgrade our fridge to one of these, mom and dad said I have to save a lot more pennies before we can afford to buy one of them. Darn! Just when I had figured out where I plan to store all my hot dogs. At least a dog can dream.

Adventures in Home Improvement // Ammo the Dachshund

What we did come home with was a new dishwasher (on account of mine has been leaking all over the floor….and mom and dad got tired of chasing me around the house after the towels that were supposed to be keeping the floor dry….hehe).

Although honestly I don’t see the point, considering I’m the absolute best dishwasher they are ever going to find!Ammo the Dachshund

Does your dog think he’s an expert dishwasher too?

Friday Fetch: PetSafe AutoTrainer

If you own a dachshund like me, then you probably know that my breed is prone to barking (and lots of it). But what if I told you there was a new product out that could train your dog not to bark while you are gone in a positive way!

The PetSafe AutoTrainer tracks your dogs barking habits with a collar, and when your dog isn’t barking it dispenses a treat to reward them for being quiet. It will continue to reward your dog for increasingly longer periods of time without barking.

Throwback Thursday: Training Day

Ammo the Dachshund // Let's Get Tricky // Teach Your Dog to High-Five

To become as skilled as I have in performing and learning tricks there is also a lot of behind the scenes training that goes on. Since I was just 8 weeks old mom has been helping me learn cues and tricks. Consistency is key, and also having a pocket full of treats!

Check out my Throwback Thursday video of one of my short training sessions at the farm in 2010:

Friday Fetch: Dog Training Pouch

Since I’m ALWAYS in training to learn new tricks and skills, when I stumbled across these Dog Training Pouches from Give a Dog a Home I thought my mom would love them! With plenty of pocket space and a french spring hinge to keep the top open they are perfect for carrying training treats for your dog or even a toy! You can even get them printed with your companies logo or your dog’s name perhaps. I know what I’ll be getting my mom for her next Birthday!

A Tricky Dachshund

As many of you might already know, I have quite the collection of tricks up my sleeve paw. My mom started helping me to learn tricks when I was just a wee pup and at just barely a year old I did my very first live performance at the 2010 Equine Extravaganza Talent Competition with my buddy Minnow the pony. Minnow and I took home the champion title and we’ve never looked back since!

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

Since then I have gone on to perform at expos, schools, fairs, and I’ve even been spotted in a few television commercials.

Spring Doxie Fest 2013 // Ammo the Dachshund performs

While my pony friend Minnow more often than not accompanies me to such performances (he’s been doing this a lot longer than I have), I sometimes have to perform on my own too.

Spring Doxie Fest 2013 // Ammo the Dachshund performs

This year I will again be attending the Spring Doxie Fest to benefit the Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue as their special celebrity performer – which means I need to start working on some new and exciting tricks!

I’ve got a few I’ve been working on (with a few training miss-haps along the way….not to worry, no dachshunds were harmed). But here’s where I need your help! I need your suggestions on what tricks I can add to my performance.

Spring Doxie Fest 2013 // Ammo the Dachshund performs

So leave a comment, post them on my Facebook page, or shoot me an e-mail. I’d love to hear what tricks you’d like to see! I know you guys will have some fantastic ideas!

P.S. I’ve been nominated as Best Pet Blog of 2014! And if you have a second and don’t mind voting for me I’d be forever grateful! You can vote once per email! Dog Agility Training – the off days

As you may already know I have been taking agility training classes for a long time now. I have yet to ever compete, and someday I might, but mostly I just enjoy the exercise and mental stimulation.

Ammo the Dachshund // Dog Agility

However, despite my love of running the courses, sometimes I have off days too. For example last week I was a little off my game. Having just been to the vet for a nail trim (sort of stressful for me) and having to wait extra long in my crate for my turn on the course (stressful as well when you aren’t a huge fan of the crate), I had pretty much worn myself out from worrying by the time it was my turn to run the course.

I tried my best, but I was just a bit distracted (hence why I missed a few obstacles and did some very poorly executed weave poles) and much much slower on the course than normal. But hey, we’re all allowed to have off days – perhaps next week at class I’ll have a little more pep in my step! Ammo the Dachshund
