Take Your Dog to Work Day

Today is take your dog to work day. For me, it’s just a normal day, because every day in my life is “take your dog to work day”. So today I thought it would be fun to share with you what a typical day at work in my family’s custom frame shop looks like for me.

After the car is parked I make the grueling trek from the parking lot to the shop – and in the winter this means through the snow, and it’s slightly up hill too! I keep telling mom I need a shuttle, I mean seriously, these conditions are terrible!

Once inside I do my morning stretches to get ready for the day. 8 hours of work does it’s tole on you!

Before the shop opens for the day I find the optimal position to greet customers (belly side up for maximum belly rubs).

Sometimes I get bored of waiting by the front door so I have to move around a bit in order to get enough belly rubs to keep me going throughout the day.

By mid-morning I usually get a burst of energy so I sometimes shred things, or bark at mom until she gives me something to chew on.

Then it’s back to the shop door to watch for any dogs walking by that I can bark at.

Holiday Christmas Parade

If it’s a good day, then there will be a good stream of people stopping by that I can wag my tail at, and beg for food.

On slow days I just turn into a sloth and sleep the day away in the backroom.

Well, that is unless mom puts me to work filing paperwork. Sigh.

Then before I know it, it’s time to pack it all up and head home for the day.

I always look forward to the car ride home because when I get home…..

Take Your Dog to Work Day // Custom Framing // Ammo the Dachshund

As many of you may already know, I spend most of my weekdays working as a shop dog in a custom framing shop. For the past 7 years I’ve had the very important duty of shop greeter, making people smile on a daily basis! Even though I’ve been doing an amazing job, mom says this year I’m going to get a little help with my job when my new sister comes to the shop to help me handle all my duties. To make some room at the shop for an extra “employee” it was time to make some updates to our work space.

So here’s what my shop used to look like:

Things were about to change though….

Over memorial day weekend dad came in with all his tools and a whole stack of ikea boxes and we got to work building. I spent some late nights at the shop that weekend, but in the end it was worth it!

The new design table for all my customers to order their framing on turned out fabulous, even if dad built it a little too tall for us short “people”.

With a whole new look to my store there was only one thing left to do….

Now that things are back to business as usual, I’m back to my post at the front door waiting to greet all the customers.

And you know what, I’m really starting to love this new bigger space. There’s even more room now for me to stretch out for belly rubs!

So what do you think, do you like my shop’s new layout? Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

When You’re Bored at Work

Disclaimer: this post is brought to you by Chewy.com. All opinions are my own and I received a product in exchange for my honest review. I only share products that I think you and your dogs will love.

Sometimes at work I get a little bored (as evident by the video above). Let’s be honest, I can’t run the machinery at the shop or actually frame a picture (these darn paws), and unless there is a constant flow of customers coming in the door I get a little restless without someone available to play with me 24/7.

So when my friends over at Chewy.com sent me this Outward Hound Star Spinner Toy mom thought it might be a fun distraction for me at work when she’s too busy to play.

All you need are a few yummy treats to get started. Mom used some of my kibble.

Pop them into the Star Spinner and you’re ready for business.

Mom closed it all up so that it would be more of a challenge before giving it to me.

It also has a knob on the bottom that you can use to adjust the difficulty (how easily the star spins open), and since I’m such a smarty pants I started on the hardest setting.

Since I’m pretty used to playing puzzles and games this particular toy was a bit too easy for me, but it was still fun to play with! Mom thought it would be really great for dogs who eat their meals too quickly, because this would really slow them down.

Working Smarter

As you may know, I’ve got a 9-5 job working at my mom’s custom frame shop. While I’d totally love to not have to work at all….we all know the business would totally fall apart without me.

Working Smarter // Smart Dachshund helps out at work

My mom always says we need to work smarter not harder, so that we have more time for the adventures that we love. (and well, so I have more time to play fetch and practice my dog agility at work).

So I picked up a little trick on my own to help us get done our work faster…

I’ve started grabbing the printouts when they come out of the printer and bringing them to mom. And if you visit my shop and you’re lucky, maybe I’ll even bring you your receipt (mom says I still need to practice not drooling on the paper first before I master that one).

Yea, it’s nice to know my hardworking efforts are finally being appreciated around here! Now can we quit working and have a little fun?

Santa’s Little Helper

It’s crunch time for me and my mom this week at the shop, so I’ve got my very best helper hat on and I’m busy busy helping mom finish up all the picture framing orders.

Santa's Little Helper

So I don’t have a fun video, or a long adventure post, or even any pictures of me on the farm to share today…..just little old me in my very best helper hat.

It’s a very important job being a helper dog, and I hope you’ll understand that today all my helper duties are being used at the shop!

Until my next adventure that is! See you soon. xoxo, Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Shopping with a Small Business

This holiday season I wanted to thank everyone out there that has supported small businesses. Being that I work in my mom’s small business, and I also run my own online shop, small businesses have a special place in my heart.

Shopping small businesses

Because honestly, you can’t go to a big box store and be greeted by a happy tail wagging dog like me!

As you can see, I’m a pretty hard-working pup!

Don’t forget to shop small this season, and support your local businesses. 🙂 Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Shipping & Receiving

Last week a box filled with packing materials made its way into the shop.

Since I’m never one to pass up the opportunity to play in a box (don’t knock it until you try it!), I wasted no time in jumping right in.

Then I had a thought! Hey mom, since I’m already all packed up you might as well ship me to the nearest pet store. I’ll make sure to tell them to ship me back before dinner!

Dachshund Tormented by House Fly

Ok, so I know you probably think of me as this big brave Super Hero, and I am! But sometimes I come up against some unexpected evil that throws me for a loop. And that evil is called House Fly.

Ammo the Dachshund Tormented by House Fly

As much as I hate to admit it, I spend many hours hiding in the shop from these horrible creatures that find their way inside.

Mom tries her best to catch those darn flies that make my life a nightmare, but sometimes there is just one that seems to outsmart every capture device there is. So I finally decided to dog-up and fight back…

Well unfortunately that House Fly lived to fight another day! Until we meet again nemesis, this time I’m ready for you!

2015 New Year Resolutions

Happy New Year // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m now about a week into 2015, and just like years past I like to come up with a few resolutions for the new year. Last year I came up with a list of several goals I wanted like to accomplish. Lets see how I did…

2014 Goals:

  1. Relax more, and don’t work so hard!
Afternoon Nap // Ammo the Dachshund
I always struggle with this one as I take on a lot of roles, shop dog, farm dog, guard dog at home. But I tried to relax some!

  2. Go on more walks around my neighborhood
My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund
I’m happy to report in the summer especially I tried to go on at least 1 walk a week through my neighborhood, I also went hiking a lot more too!

  3. Take a trip to the dog beach again
A Day at the Beach // Ammo the Dachshund
I went for a day trip this year to one of the Delaware beaches and had a blast, I also created my own beach at the farm too!

  4. Compete in a Barn Hunt Competition
I would still love to make it to a barn hunt competition some day, sadly 2014 just wasn’t the year!

  5. Take a new training class

Ammo the Dachshund // Agility // Teeter Totter
While I didn’t attend any new training classes I did continue on with my dog agility training for most of the year.

Happy New Year // Ammo the Dachshund

For 2015 I decided to do something a little different. Instead of a whole list of goals I would like to accomplish I have come up with just one resolution.

My resolution for this year is to take more time to be with my family, enjoy as many adventures as possible, and learn to unplug a bit. As you know I lead quite the busy life for a dog. Not only do I work everyday in my mom’s shop as the official greeter, but I also have duties on the farm, as well as guard dog duties at home – and lets not forget my love of adventure! And while I started this blog because I wanted to share my fun adventures with you, sometimes I struggle to have a balance of adventure time and “blogging” time.

ammo the dachshund blogging outdoors

So while I have no plans to stop sharing my happy adventures with you (it’s what keeps my tail wagging everyday!), I have decided that starting next week I will be blogging 4 days a week instead of 5. (Tuesday through Friday).

But don’t worry, if you find yourself missing your monday dose of me – you can always catch adorable photos of me daily on my Facebook page and instagram account.

I’m looking forward to 2015 and all it has to bring, and I’m hoping to have even more excitement and adventures to share with you in the months to come! xoxo, Ammo the Dachshund
