Dachshund Takes Flight – Flying High in a Piper Single Engine Plane

Yesterday I shared with you my paddleboarding adventures on the lake during my stay-cation, and today I have an even more thrilling tale to tell!

Last week I took to the air for my very first flight ever!

Now as you may already know, I’m not your average dog, so when I took to the air I didn’t just book a flight on some commercial jet for a week-long getaway. No instead I decided to fly in style by hopping aboard my own single engine plane – aka the Piper Archer II.

I didn’t have to look too far to find a pilot for my first flight either, because my mom’s dad has been a recreational pilot since 1986, and I was to be his very first canine passenger.

Being that this was my first flight, I dressed in the best piloting attire I could find. I couldn’t risk looking like I didn’t know what I was doing.

I was pretty darn excited to take to the air, so much so that I even practiced my airplane yelling just in case it was anything like riding on a roller coaster.

As we took to the air I kept my eyes glued to the window – it was nothing like riding in a car!

I was fascinated by how tiny everything looked from the air, and the cars on the roads below looked just like little rodents scurrying all around.

We flew over many places that I recognized, like my house, the shop where I work, and even the farm – where I waved hello to all my pony friends below.

We even flew over Marsh Creek Lake where I had taken my paddleboarding adventure the day before.

I was having so much fun looking out the window that I almost forgot we were so high in the air.

But then I caught sight of all the dials and buttons and nobs, and remembered that we weren’t in kansas anymore   firmly planted on the ground anymore.

The dials and buttons and nobs had me so excited that it made me want to get my pilots license too! Check it out as I help navigate the plane during a take off and landing:

After we landed I couldn’t stop beaming from ear to ear!

Ammo the Dachshund takes Flight - Small Dog takes to the Air in a Single Engine Piper Plane

Flying in a single engine plane was one of the most exciting things I have ever done.

Who knew this super hero was born to fly!

So cross flying in the sky off my bucket list, because this dog has earned his wings! Maybe next time I’ll have to try helicopters! Ammo the Dachshund

Stand up Paddleboarding with your Dog

Last week I took a short stay-cation in my hometown of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. While I didn’t actually travel anywhere exotic or new I did get to have a whole bunch of brand-new adventures. I hope you’ll come along for the ride with me this week, as I have lots to share!

One of the first things I did on my vacation was to go stand up paddleboarding (also called SUP or stand up paddle surfing) at the Marsh Creek Boat Rental.

Visiting the lake isn’t new to me, as I’ve been known to zip around on a motorized row boat with my mom and dad, but SUP was something I have never done before.

I was so excited when I saw the paddleboard come out that I couldn’t wait to hit the water, especially on this super hot day.

I did end up swimming A LOT while I was on the water, sometimes by accident because I was standing too close to the edge while some turbulent water knocked me in, and sometimes because I wanted to take a trip over to visit dad in his canoe.

Luckily I do know how to swim, and my new life vest kept me even more afloat – and made it easy for mom and dad to scoop me back onto the board.

I’m pretty sure I was the talk of the lake that day and I enjoyed waving at all the other people out enjoying the cool water.

This may have been my first time paddleboarding, but it certainly won’t be my last! Especially if this heat wave in Pennsylvania keeps up!

Tips for Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog

  • Before visiting a lake rental spot make sure that they allow dogs on their rental boats and boards
  • Make sure your dog has a properly fitted life vest – keep a leash attached to it so you can quickly grab your dog should they go overboard accidentally
  • If you have never been on a paddleboard yourself, practice paddling on the lake without your dog first, it will be much harder to maneuver the board with a dog on it too
  • Allow your dog to get used to the board near the shore first with you standing in the water
  • Be prepared to get wet – very wet (but that is the point isn’t it?)
  • Don’t bring a dog paddleboarding that doesn’t know how to swim, it is pretty likely that at some point they will go overboard especially if it is windy out
  • If your dog has a strong herding instinct it is best to have only one “member of the pack” out on the lake at a time, otherwise your dog will be upset when his “pack” isn’t close together, causing him to jump overboard or panic
  • Have as much fun as possible!

And the icing on my cupcake…..according to Shape Magazine I burned 500 – 700 calories every hour I was out paddleboarding (although mom says she’s pretty sure they mean it’s her that’s burning those calories), but regardless it’s also apparently the new “celebrity trend” – with paddleboarders like Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson testing them out too.

So considering I’m probably just as famous as those big celebs (right?) then it must be the super cool new thing to do! Not to mention I look awfully sexy doing it! *wink*

So what do you think? Is your next big adventure going to be paddleboarding with your dog? Or do you just enjoy living vicariously through me? Or better yet – have any suggestions of new adventures I should try?

Make sure you stop by the blog tomorrow to hear all about my adventures on my very first airplane ride!Ammo the Dachshund

Going on Vacation

ammo the dachshund visits the beach

Next week I’m going on vacation, well maybe more like a stay-cation of sorts, as I don’t specifically have any plans to go on a big trip. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have lots of adventures planned.

ammo the dachshund trip to the beach

I plan to try paddle boarding, go on my very first airplane ride, and maybe even take a trip to the beach. It’s sure to be an exciting week!

ammo the dachshund trip to the beach

Being on vacation also means I’m going to take a little break from posting on the blog next week. While I’m sure I’ll check in every now and then, and continue to post on my Facebook Page, things will be a little quieter around here next week while I take a little time to have some adventures.

So I hope you won’t miss me too much, but I promise to return refreshed and with LOTS of adventures to share with you! xoxo

You, Me, and The Dog

It’s Summer and it’s hot. So you’ll have to excuse me if all I do today is nap on the bed in the cool cool air conditioning. That is all.

Summer Love

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

You might remember my neighbor, Harley, you know the sweet girl next door aka the Rottweiler I torment through the fence on a daily basis.

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

Whenever I see Harley outside we run up and down our shared fence line playing. Harley tries her hardest to keep up with my fierce speed while I bark my head off at her to catch up.

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

Then on the lucky days Harley actually gets to come over and wrestle with me.

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

At 6 months old Harley is just a lovable giant – and she may dominate our wrestling matches with her sheer size…..

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

….but she certainly can’t match my warp speed!

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

How else do you think I keep my fit looking physique?

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

Sometimes the quiet times with Harley can be just as fun though.

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

I won’t lie, we’ve been known to give each other the goggly eyes once in a while.

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

Harley even gave me a sweet lick on the eyeball the other day. *wink*

ammo the dachshund and harley the Rottweiler

To which I responded….GROSS…..GIRL COOTIES!

Summer Days by the Pool

ammo the dachshund at the pool

This past weekend was a hot one, so to beat the heat I headed over to my MomMom & PopPop’s house to take a dip in the pool.

ammo the dachshund at the pool

Floating around the pool on my raft can be quite enjoyable when the temperatures reach near 90F.

ammo the dachshund at the pool

I dubbed myself Captain Ammo and invited my cousins to come play with me aboard my ship flotation device!

ammo the dachshund at the pool

My cousin Chase volunteered to be first mate and we embarked on a wild adventure at sea pool.

ammo the dachshund at the pool

Chase and I discussed where we thought the buried treasure might be – and we both agreed that it must be under the sea pool.

ammo the dachshund at the pool

Our plans to rescue said treasure were foiled though when we realized that I forgot to pack my floaties. AAARRRGH!

ammo the dachshund at the pool

Don’t worry though, Mom signed me up for swim lessons so our next adventure will be sure to lead us to gold and riches.

Captain

ammo the dachshund goes for a boat ride

After my graduation adventures on Sunday, when Monday rolled around and mom said we were going on an adventure – I took the car ride there as an excuse to catch up on my much needed napping.

ammo the dachshund goes for a boat ride

And it’s a good thing I got those extra Zzzz’s because I had to be captain of the ship!

ammo the dachshund goes for a boat ride

Ok well maybe technically it was more like a motor boat we rented from the Marsh Creek State Park for a few hours – but either way it required a lot of Captaining.

ammo the dachshund goes for a boat ride

My boat ride on this scorcher of a 90 degree day was the perfect thing to kick off the summer!

ammo the dachshund goes for a boat ride

I even took a few laps in the lake later on – and mom said next time perhaps we’ll rent some paddle boards so I can really get wet!

ammo the dachshund goes for a boat ride

With the wind in my ears, I knew there was only one more thing to start the summer right….

ammo the dachshund gets ice cream

….Ice cream!!!

I even screamed enough that dad gave me a taste of his vanilla from Crazy Cones.

ammo the dachshund runs

And to wrap up my adventuresome memorial day weekend I played some soccer in the backyard with my cousins during a family cookout. It was the perfect way to end the weekend, although I’m pretty sure I’ll be sleeping for the next 48 hours straight!

Graduation Day

Ammo the dachshund memorial day weekend

You might think that during my 3-day weekend for memorial day that most of my time would be spend lounging around and relaxing. But if you are a regular reader of my blog, then you know that this is simply not going to fly around my house – and you better believe that I packed as many adventures in as I could! By the end of the weekend I was so tired I even slept through dinner!

Ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation

I kicked off the weekend by celebrating my Aunt Laurel’s graduation from the University of Delaware.

Ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation

Even though I physically didn’t get to attend Laurel’s graduation as a certified Athletic Trainer I was there in spirit as mom texted me photos from the event so I could watch from home.

Ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

But I did get to wear my blue and gold proudly for the graduation party held at the farm the next day.

Ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

I kept busy all day and played a whole bunch of yard games with the party goers.

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

Cornhole is my new favorite, and I’m fairly certain that I was the only one playing properly. Winning!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

And just like any function on the family farm, the magical ponies unicorns made their appearance as the graduate was made to participate in an embarrassing obstacle challenge.

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

I let my pal Trooper handle the judging this time while I manned the camera with mom, as I wasn’t going to miss a second of this train wreck.

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

Eventually the graduate crossed over the bridge to her future with her trusty steed Jet!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

And we all cheered!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

By this point in the day I was pretty zonked, but I pulled it all together, because I’m never one to miss family portrait time!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

Awww how cute.

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

Trooper of course decided to kick off the extended family portrait with a bang!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

And it was all down hill after that!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

I’m so lucky to be a part of so many family adventures!

ammo the dachshund university of delaware graduation party

But, next time I might have to recruit a stunt double, because this pup was not prepared for the awesomeness that is GRADUATION DAY!

Fashion Show! compliments of Bullseye

So today when I got to work there was a surprise package for me waiting at the shop. I’m no stranger to getting mail at the shop, but this was an unexpected package.

When I opened it up it was filled with goodies from the Polka Dog Bakery at Target! And there was a letter from Bullseye the Target Dog saying he noticed my post online and wanted to send me a couple of his favorite Polka Dog Products.

I was totally blushing that Bullseye even knew my name!! And then I realized there was really only one thing to do when a package of goodies arrives at the shop……FASHION SHOW!

Somehow Bullseye knew that all the Polka Dog products would match perfectly with my Super Hero Cape too.

The Inspector

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

My pony friends recently got in a shipment of new equipment to use during their mounted games competitions on the farm!

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

These brand-new items for the Windsor Castle Race looked pretty spiffy to me, but there is really no way to tell until Inspector Ammo makes his rounds.

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

The traffic cones looked alright I guess, and would have gotten an A++ instead of an A if they smelled like dead animals instead of new plastic though.

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

The polo balls were a bit tough to inspect because they were very difficult for me to pick up.

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

Rolling them was a bit more effective – but just not as fun.

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

I was distraught as to whether I should give them a passing grade for pony usage – especially since they didn’t come equipped with squeakers inside.

ammo the dachshund inspecting at the farm

But then I decided, what the heck, squeaker or not how can you not have fun with a ball! So go ahead ponies, have fun with your new toys – they passed inspection! Yipee!
