Emmi-Pet Dog Dental Toothbrush Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Emmi-Pet is an electric dental tooth brush designed for pets that cleans teeth without the need of vibration. While I found this to be a great tool, I sort of fell off the wagon when it came to keeping up with brushing regularly (I know, shame on me). Fetch the Emmi-Pet Toothbrush.

I tried the Tropiclean Teeth Gel for a time, it’s a great way to add some cleaning power to your dog’s teeth without the need to use a toothbrush. You can even spread it onto your dog’s chew toys. I did thoroughly enjoy this cleaning method, but again I wasn’t great about keeping up with a routine. Fetch the Tropiclean Teeth Gel.

Mom even used a pet dental scraper on me. This is a great way to remove plaque buildup, and something I still have done on occasion when my plaque buildup gets noticeable. Fetch a Pet Dental Scraper.

Dental Chews are another great way to fight plaque if your dog likes to chew on them. I tend to be really interested in them at first, but eventually loose interest in the toys after a few weeks. One of my favorite chew toys that I have remained in is the Benebone which encourages me to chew on a regular basis (and I use it almost every night). Fetch a Benebone Dental Chew.

Zuke's Z-Bones - Chews to Keep your Pet's Teeth Clean

My absolute favorite way to keep my teeth looking sparkly is with dental chews. Lately I’ve been snacking on these Zuke’s Z-Bones Dental Chews from Chewy.com. Seriously what’s better than cleaning your teeth by eating something delicious!

Key Benefits of Zuke’s Z-Bones in Clean Berry Crisp

  • Potato and pea-based formula which is highly digestible
  • Alfalfa, parsley, rosemary, and fennel naturally freshen breath by supporting digestion
  • Helps polish teeth, freshen breath, and maintain healthy gums
  • Nutrient-rich cherries are a powerful source of antioxidants
  • Available in four sizes to accommodate all dogs 10 lbs or larger
  • Made in the USA!

My mom’s favorite part about these chews is that not only do they help clean my teeth and freshen my breath, but they also contain Turmeric. You may have heard me mention this ingredient before, but it’s been studied for its antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties and can help prevent cancer in your pet. That’s a big plus in my book!

So while I’ll continue to do my best in keeping my teeth healthy and clean, I most certainly won’t give up my daily dental chews…..it’s my favorite part of the day!

Emmi-Pet Dog Dental Cleaner Review & Giveaway

Disclaimer: This post and giveaway is brought to you by Emmi-Dent. All opinions are my own and I only share products I think you will love!

Emmi-Pet Dog Dental Toothbrush Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My new friend at Emmi-Dent recently sent me their Emmi-Pet Ultrasound Toothbrush to test out. I was super excited to try what is essentially an “electric toothbrush” for pets.

Emmi-Pet Dog Dental Toothbrush Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

What makes the Emmi-Pet different than a regular toothbrush for your dog is that it generates ultrasound with a patented ultrasonic microchip that is embedded inside the brush head.

This tiny chip creates up to 84 million ultrasonic impulses per minute and transmits them via the bristles and the special Emmi-pet toothpaste onto the teeth giving your pet a superior cleaning.

Emmi-Pet Dog Dental Toothbrush Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Just like electric toothbrushes for humans, it comes with a charging station and toothbrush heads for big and small dogs (which you can also order replacements for when they wear out).

Now I know what you’re probably thinking. An electric toothbrush is great and all, but there is no way my dog is going to let me put a vibrating toothbrush in their mouth. But guess what, it doesn’t actually vibrate – at least not enough that you or your dog could even tell it’s moving.

Emmi-Pet Dog Dental Toothbrush Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Emmi-Pet is making those 84 million ultrasonic movements a minute so fast that you can’t even tell. And to clean your pet’s teeth you don’t even need to actually bush, just simply hold the toothbrush to your pets teeth for 5 seconds per tooth.

I’ve never been a big fan of getting my teeth brushed (I tolerate it), but this I didn’t mind at all. I sat quietly while mom held the brush up to my teeth.

The ultrasonic impulses are able to penetrate teeth and gums destroying bacteria and germs where bristles can’t reach. I even allowed mom to reach my back teeth with the brush – something she previously had trouble with when using a regular toothbrush that required brushing. This is essential in reducing and protecting against periodontal (gum) disease.

Mom even took the human equivalent to this toothbrush for a spin, and said she noticed her teeth did feel a bit cleaner after using it for a few days. The human version comes with vibration in the hand piece, so it’s more similar to most electric toothbrushes you may have seen, but still has the ultrasonic vibrations as well as the patented chip technology in the brush head.

The Emmi-Pet Ultrasound Toothbrush retails for $199, but you can get 20% off with code AMMO20. I’m loving this product and can’t wait to see how much whiter my teeth are in a few months!

And now for the best part….

Methods to Keep your Dog’s Teeth Clean

Disclaimer: this post is brought to you by Chewy.com and contains affiliate links.

As you may or may not know, this month is National Pet Dental Health Month. And if you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, then you might also know a few months ago I jumped back on the “teeth brushing” bandwagon and started trying to maintain my pearly whites a bit better.

Clean Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund

While I still continue to use the Tropiclean Gel on my teeth each night before bed, I’ve also added some new tools to my dental regime.

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

My friends over at Chewy.com sent me this Nylabone DuraChew Dental Dino Toy and my mom picked me up a Pet Dental Scraper (thanks to a recommendation from my Facebook friend, Alex).

Clean Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund

Now incase you may have forgotten, before I even started on my teeth cleaning regime, my teeth looked like this. And even after getting into the habit of brushing regularly I was still left with some plaque on my teeth.

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

So to aid in keeping my teeth clean I decided to break open my new Nylabone.

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

Now I’ve always been a lover of Nylabones, and this Dino chew is no different. The little bumps are super fun to chew on, and as a bonus mom says they help to clean my teeth and freshen my breath!

You can fetch your own Nylabone Dino Dental Chew from Chewy.com – and it’s on SALE now for just $3.99!

So on top of using my new Nylabone, I also started using this Pet Dental Scraper to scrape the plaque off my teeth. Now I must admit upon first inspection it looked pretty scary.

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

But my mom waited until I was extra sleepy on the couch one evening to test it out.

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

Each night my mom has been working on my teeth in little bits to scrape off the plaque while I’m tired, and you know what, it’s not so bad.

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

And while I still have a ways to go to remove all the plaque, even after just one time, my teeth look a whole lot better!

How to Maintain your Dog's Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Dental Health Month

If you want to use a Pet Dental Scraper on your pet, here’s what I’d recommend:

  • Only try on dogs that are relatively calm and not fazed by being “examined”
  • Start with just playing around with your dog’s lips and teeth without the tool to get them used to having their mouth examined
  • Use the dental scraper when your dog is in a relaxed state
  • Use one hand to hold your dog’s mouth steady incase they pull away quickly
  • Apply the dental scraper in small doses to your dog’s teeth and don’t overdo it. Gradually increase the time you use it as your dog gets comfortable with it

Disclaimer: This post is brought to you by Chewy.com, but all opinions are my own. Be advised that the best way to get a full dental cleaning for your pet is to contact a licensed veterinarian – and these are just my own personal experiences with pet dental cleaning, and I am in no way an expert. Use the pet dental scraper on your pet at your own risk.

Clean Teeth Club – How I’m Doing

Clean Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund

You might remember that a couple of months ago I vowed to get back on the teeth cleaning routine. Well since I started taking better care of my teeth back in early November I thought it was high time I give you an update on how I’m doing. And more importantly what my teeth look like!

Clean Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund

Clean Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund

My regime consisted of eating a TropiClean Fresh Breath Chew (sent to me by my friends from Chewy) about every other day and using the TropiClean Teeth Gel every night.

Mom puts a little of the gel on her finger and rubs it all over my teeth before I go to bed. I was pretty good about making sure I cleaned my teeth every night, but I did miss a few days here and there.

Here’s a closer look at what my teeth looked like before I started cleaning them regularly and after. (P.S. the dark spots on my gums is not some funky gum disease, I’m actually a dapple dachshund and my skin is spotted with pink and black coloration)

So as you can see the large spots of plaque build-up are still there on my teeth – but my vet did say that even when I started cleaning my teeth regularly that discoloration would not go away, but it would prevent new build-up from forming.

Clean Teeth // Ammo the Dachshund

But the good news is that there isn’t any additional build-up on my teeth, and mom thinks that they might be a little less yellow overall from when I started “brushing” regularly. So I’ve decided to keep up with my teeth cleaning routine – hopefully to even prevent needing a full blown teeth cleaning from the vet. In which case mom says we’d look into options that don’t require me to be sedated (like this mobile service in my area) …because what fun is that?

A Visit from the Horse Dentist

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

This week on the farm the horses were due for their dental check-up. Trooper and I of course were on hand for moral support.

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

Because who in their right mind likes to go to the dentist? Especially when you have to wear this type of contraption on your face!

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper always tries to be Mr. Helper, offering to hold supplies – mostly towels. That dog has an unhealthy obsession with towels if you ask me! I didn’t have the heart to tell him that they aren’t necessary tools for a dental exam.

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

I on the other hand just like to wait and see if there are any loose pony teeth, because I hear the tooth fairy will shell out double for horse teeth!

One thing can always be certain after a visit from the horse dentist though…..

….Trooper and I will be sure to brush our teeth extra well to avoid having to visit the dentist ourselves! Those tools look scary! Ammo the Dachshund

Friday Fetch: Pet Dental Health

ammo the dachshund pet dental health monthYesterday I shared how it was my new goal to start brushing my teeth every night before bed since February is Pet Dental Health Month.

So after a visit to Petco last week, I rounded up some of my favorite items to get you started in keeping your own pet’s choppers extra sparkly!

Robot Ponies

ammo the dachshund with the horse dentist

Yesterday on the farm a man with a big bucket full of tools showed up.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

Me and Trooper weren’t quite sure what was going on, but mom said it was the horse dentist for the ponies.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

That story added up fine while Minnow had his teeth brushed by an uncomfortable looking metal pole.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

But then he was fastened with a strange and scary looking face mask – which led me to conclude that they were turning Minnow into a robot!

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

This sounded way cool to me, I was actually quite excited to have a robot as a friend – Trooper on the other hand was a bit nervous.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

Yes, a robot pony was the coolest thing ever I decided.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

So I started helping the man by handing him his tools so that my robot pony could be ready faster.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

Trooper was insistent in his worrying though, “But Ammo, what if robot ponies eat little wiener dogs for breakfast?”

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

Not being one to take the eating of wiener dogs lightly, Me and Trooper later asked Minnow if he would eat us – were he in fact a robot pony now.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

Minnow assured us that he would not, and that he wasn’t a robot pony, but one can never be too careful – so we’ve taken to watching Minnow out of the corner of our eyes. Just in case.

ammo the dachshund and the horse dentist

And for now, Trooper is very relieved that he is the only one that will be eating any wiener dogs for breakfast.
