DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Last week an interesting looking package arrived at the shop (aka my place of work).

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Upon popping the top, I was surprised to find a box of real grass! From my pals over at DoggieLawn, this “box of grass” is a convenient indoor potty system for your dog! With monthly subscription options, and several different sizes, this box of real grass is shipped to your door every month in a convenient disposable box for your dog to do it’s business on.

So mom popped it down in the shop and let me inspect my DoggieLawn.

It certainly smelled like real grass and weighs slightly more than half as much as standard sod for easy lifting. It’s also “soil-less” which means it contains none of the dirt you find in sod.

DoggieLawn recommends spritzing your grass with water every 1-2 days and picking up any solids your pet leaves behind until your new box arrives in the mail. Then simply toss the old one!

While I am a completely house trained dog and mom never used pee pads or any other indoor training device to house train me, I can see the benefit to using one of these boxes when training a puppy, for older dogs who can’t hold it, or for people who live in apartments.

Since the idea of doing my business indoors is quite foreign to me, I didn’t quite grasp the concept of using the box to go to the bathroom. But even if your dog doesn’t take to the box right away DoggieLawn offers free training support. They also have the ability to add a pheromone scent to your box (so that it will smell like dog urine and your dog may be more inclined to use it) – or you can even add some of your own dog’s urine to it. Which for me I think might be the trick to training me to use it, because who wants another dog’s urine in their box of grass….gotta cover that stink up!

So instead of using my DoggieLawn as a potty, for the time being I found it quite useful as a napping spot!

After all, I’d rather be outside than in….so while I’m stuck at work all day, why not bring a little of the outdoors in!

I’m definitely going to keep DoggieLawn on my list of items that may be useful as I age (although mom says I’m not ever allowed to get old), because indoor potty grass sounds like the perfect thing to help you “age gracefully”, if you know what I mean!

And now for the best part….

  1. Yes, completely housebroken but would love another option for elimination needs for when I got back to work.

  2. Rhett was completely housebroken but at age 14 he tends to have accidents now and then……this would be a great option!

  3. Bean is crate trained, but sometimes forgets to “tell” us when she has to go and we’re at home. This would be interesting to try!

  4. This sounds amazing! My pup isn’t completely house trained so hopefully this will aid in the process!

  5. This would be great for Magnus in the winter. Now that summer has rolled around he is 100% housebroken, but he may change his mind when winter returns. Southern Ontario winters are so harsh and we need to dress ourselves, shovel the deck, the stairs, and a patch of grass in the yard, then dress the dog and carry him down said icy stairs in the dark. In the summer we could put it in a corner of the deck for emergencies (we live on the second floor of a house), and would come in handy at night when I don’t want to lumber down the stairs in the dark.

  6. My mini is partially housebroken. We live in a high rise apartment in NYC, so she always has a pad as backup, especially during bad weather (she’s picky). This would be perfect for us!

  7. My 2 doxies are mostly house broken. But, I would LOVE something for those occasional accidents!!

  8. Magda is 10 and housebroken…however, she is a delicate flower. She does not like to get her feet wet – so if it rains or snows, she gets desperate, lol.

  9. Jasper uses pee pads and goes to those first, as he never really grabbed onto the concept of going to the back door when he had to go. But since he’s been sick he kinda became the dog in a bubble & the pee pads were his best option because of his weakened immune system. Would love to give this a try. 🙂

  10. When I got Emy I was living in an apartment so I potty pad trained her, not only because we lived in an apartment but it was also -60 outside most days and she was a tiny puppy who got cold easily. We have since moved into a house and she uses the outside option more often, but we’re looking at getting a little buddy for her to spend her days with who will also be potty pad trained 🙂

  11. What a creative idea! I was house-trained and when we moved, I decided to untrain myself! I use pipi pads for pipi and I need caca pads cuz I don’t like doing number two in number one spot. I am trying to confuse my Mommy!I go on rugs, etc so maybe a piece of the real stuff would be good!

  12. Oliver could so use this- just rescued him and he needs some training after living outside and in a kennel- he’s now in a 21 story high rise!

  13. Yes my dog is housetrained, and even trained me on a few things. Sadly his age is catching up with him. our walks move slower, the ramps can be a challenge, and sometimes it’s impossible to make it outside in time. FOr the sanity of the family, something like this may be the key to keeping peace through the aging process.

  14. Mine is 99.9% housetrained but it took him about 7 months (as an adult dog) to get there. He is still not trustworthy in rooms he does not frequent so we do not let him in certain rooms unsupervised. Easy to control, honestly. He does have bells he rings when he needs to go outside.
I can see the Doggie Lawn being useful in times of severe weather where we live where the dog might not want to go out in the rain and wind to do his business. Maybe in the garage?

  15. Yes completely housebroken, but this would definitely help on rainy days when Gnarly refuses to go outside!

  16. Beau is completely house trained but every now and again will have an accident as he ages. Usually only when nervous or excited, but I think this would be a great thing for him (and our floors!)
