The holidays are upon us, and it’s this time of year that I especially like to remember those that are less fortunate. Which is why I was so excited to partner with my friends at Tractor Supply Company® for a special project involving my local SPCA.

Tractor SupplyTractor Supply is a huge supporter of animals rescues. Not only do they host a social media contest every year that awards $25,000 in grants to 10 deserving organizations, but on a local level they make their stores available to rescue groups to host adoption events and fundraisers. And they even provide low-cost, walk-in clinics through PetVet Clinics.

So when Tractor Supply gave me the opportunity to go shopping for my local animal rescue at their store I could hardly wait!

The best part is that all TSC stores are pet friendly! So you can bring your llama, your guinea pig, your pony, and your dog shopping with you! Next time I’m bringing Minnow the pony with me.

Armed with the wish list of the Chester County SPCA (my local rescue) I roamed the isles adding everything they needed to make this the best holiday ever to some special dogs and cats.

Tractor Supply not only has lots of farm related goodies (which is where I shop for lots of my ponies needs), but they also have everything you would need for the health and well-being of your dog or cat. From flea preventatives to supplements and toys to training devices.

Because I wanted to stretch my dollar as far as I could for all the deserving pets at the SPCA I was on the lookout for products that would be great for the animals, but also cost effective too.

I was sure to snag some of the 4Health™ Dog Food Brand, an affordable, premium-quality cat and dog food, exclusively made for Tractor Supply in the USA with high-quality and grain free formulas available. My friends at the SPCA are going to love it!

I also snatched up some canned pet food from the 4Health Tractor Supply dog food line and some of these tasty looking treats from DogforDog®.

DogforDog is especially great, because with every purchase of their products they donate to animal rescues. So by grabbing some of their soft treats to gift to my local rescue, I was also helping to donate funds to another shelter in need.

So with my cart finally full I was ready to make my way to the checkout (where the cashiers always have a cookie waiting for visiting pets!).

I can’t wait to take all these fun goodies from Tractor Supply Company to the SPCA this weekend! It makes my heart happy to help some of the less fortunate dogs and cats out there this holiday season.

I highly recommend swinging by your neighborhood TSC store the next time you need something for your furry friend.

Dog Friendly Storage Space

My mom and dad have been on a mission this year to redo our kitchen (they’ve been saving their pennies for years and years), so in order to move ahead with operation new kitchen we’ve recently had to do a little re-organizing around the house. One of the first areas to tackle has apparently been my stuff!

I have a few designated areas around my house where most of my gear (coats, harnesses, collars, leashes, etc) collect, one of them being this little nook in the dining room.

As well as this closet in the kitchen which holds a lot of my gear as well as dog food, treats, and other stuff.

As you can see my little closet has become quite cluttered! Mom told me that I would need to clean it out completely as well, because it was going to become the new home for our pantry (once it’s gutted, painted, and redone). Of course I was very concerned about where all my stuff (especially the cookies) were going to end up!

Mom said not to worry, she had a plan, and off she went to Target to pick me up this handy organizing shelf on sale for $40.

She then relocated my treats and dog food to a cabinet in the kitchen and I was left with the task of re-organizing all the rest of my gear!

The end result was this super pretty (and super organized) pet-friendly storage to house all of my gear just inside the backdoor of my house.

With a little help from my mom I sorted everything so it’s much easier to find!

With the bulk of the storage housing my coats, fleeces and jackets (one can never have too many articles of clothing), I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.

So what do you think of my new pet friendly storage? How do you organize all of your dog’s gear around the house? Ammo the Dachshund

Fetching Finds: Lands End Carry Bag for Dachshunds

landsend carry bag for dogs

Ok, as embarrassing as it is that I’m riding around inside a tote bag in a shopping cart – there is a good explanation for this!

See, on a day-to-day basis I pretty much go everywhere with my Mom – yet there are some places that don’t necessarily hang a “dogs welcome” sign on the door. But seeing as how there are always some exceptions to the rules, mom decided that if I had a bag for these rare occasions that I might be able to tag along anyway. And if riding in a tote bag means that I don’t have to stay home alone, then I’m willing to swallow my pride – as long as no one tells Trooper!

When my new bag arrived I admit, it looked pretty spiffy.

It was a Lands End canvas tote bag designed just for dogs. It came complete with a firm base at the bottom for me to stand on, an outside pocket to stash my treats, a zipper to close the top, a neck hole, and a leash attachment for my collar (although I probably won’t use the attachment – just for safety reasons incase I ever fell out or anything).

Now I bet your next question is – did I fit? Being as I’m built more like a hot dog than most small dogs, length is an important factor here. Since I’m 17 inches long I probably won’t ever be able to lay down in the bag, but I can sit comfortably in it.

Mom says my new bag is designed to hold up to 20 lbs – and after weighing in at a muscular 18 lbs (I’m much bigger than a mini Dachshund) this bag seems more than strong enough to hold my muscular self.

I took my new bag for a spin around Lowes yesterday – and it was way more comfortable to sit in than on the mesh-like floor of the cart. Mom also carried me around in it for a bit which is quite fun for me – but Mom says my muscular self is a bit heavy to carry around for too long.

And incase you are looking for a new bag to embarrass carry your dog around in too, here’s my list of pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Can hold up to 20 lbs (much more than most dog carry bags out there)
  • Has a nice solid base to stand on
  • Has a neck hole to stick your head out of
  • Zips up
  • Isn’t too “Paris Hilton” if you know what I mean!
  • Budget friendly at $50 (or $35 if you buy it on special right now)

Cons:

  • If it were truly made to fit a Dachshund body it could stand to be a tad bit longer with the neck hole a little  deeper as well
  • The shoulder straps could be a bit shorter to make it more comfortable for carrying a heavy muscular dog
  • A harness attachment would be a much safer than having a collar attachment

You can fetch your own Lands End Canvas Pet Tote for $50 – or they are currently running a 30% off + free shipping special on their site with will bring it down to $35 before tax!

*disclosure: I was not paid or perked to write this review – I just thought my fans might be interested to hear my review of my new doggie tote bag!

*UPDATE: For those of you looking for the coupon code for Lands End the deal is 30% off everything + free shipping on orders over $50. Use Promotion Code: ENJOY30 PIN: 1850 Promotion ends 4/23/12 at 11:59pm CST

Shopping with a Trendy Dachshund

Ok, I admit it, I’m a bit of a shopping addict. I love scouring the internet for the latest and greatest trendy products – and I love bringing you my Friday Fetch feature every Friday, where I share some of my favorite finds.

shopping with ammo the dachshund on Amazon

The most asked question on the blog seems to be “where did you get that” (It’s because I’m so stylish right?), so I decided to add an “I’m Digging” section to the blog – right there on the sidebar. Here I’ll feature some of my favorite products from my Amazon Affiliate Shop – some of which I own and love, and others that are on my wish list.

So even though you all can’t ride in the shopping cart with me, you can still be just as cool.

I take cool to a whole new level don’t I?

So what am I missing? Any super-awesome new pet products out there that I should know about? Trendy Blogs I should be reading? Do tell.

Artsy Fartsy

Don’t worry this isn’t a stinky post – although if they invented scratch-n-sniff computer monitors I’d totally be able to share all my favorite stinky smells with all of you! Now wouldn’t that be fun!

No, instead I’m going to share with you my new rubber stamp! (the unscented version at least)

ammo the dachshund stamp

How great is that! My mom helped me make it, and even though she thinks it’s a little rough around the edges still, I think it’s fabulous! You better believe I’ve been stamping all of my toys so Trooper can’t steal them!

Me and mom have been on an artsy fartsy kick lately – so much so that we rearranged my little corner in the shop that I share with the ponies.

ammo the dachshund and painting pony

Isn’t it cool, we now have walls to hang up all of our artwork (nevermind the fact that we had to drive 2 hours to get them!). Mom says we even get to test out our new walls when we set up our booth at the Ludwigs Corner Horse Show (and the Chadds Ford Dog Days of Summer Event) in a couple of weeks.

I can’t wait, because when we travel it means one thing and one thing alone……

…..WAY MORE COOKIES!
