A Dachshund’s Art Gallery

Since I was just a wee pup I was instilled with a love of the arts. Not only do I paint myself, but I live with some super talented Painting Ponies! And while you might think having animal artists in the family is quite a feat, my mom and dad are no stranger to the arts themselves. My dad is a graphic designer (who spends his free time designing posters that you can purchase HERE) and my mom is a picture framer (check out the shop where I work HERE).

With a love of art spreading across my family, it’s no wonder that my home has turned into an art gallery of sorts. I thought it would be fun to take you for a tour around my home and show you some of the latest and greatest artistic treasures that are currently making my home just a bit more cheerful!

When I attended the Spring Doxie Fest this year I picked up a happy little Dachshund print from artist, Debbie Sampson. Of course mom framed him up in a happy yellow frame that makes him extra cheerful!

Back in November mom picked up this cute little dachshund print from Kim at Yellow Brick Home. He kind of has an uncanny resemblance to yours truly.

This happy horse head was a Christmas gift to my mom and came from White Faux Taxidermy – and not to worry, he’s completely made of resin (no real taxidermy horses here).

Of course the ceramic dachshund my mom found at Home Goods last year keeps Mr. Fake Pony company in my office, because everything is better with the buddy system.

These two pieces arrived around Christmas time. One being a rendering of my home by the talented Rebekkah Seale and the other a very special original painting of cows done by the ever amazing Janis Fitch.

Those cows just remind me of how lucky I am to have grown up in farm country, where the smell of cattle and horses are just a few steps out my backdoor. Not to mention those yummy cow pies!

And the last little art trinket is one that just makes me giggle – this sweet little screen printed squirrel from the Land of Nod (meant to be an ornament) is happily hanging on my cork board in the living room. He may not nibble on acorns in real life, but he reminds me that there are plenty of critters just out my back door begging to be chased. Happy Hunting!

With all these artists and artistic pieces in my home it’s no wonder that I spend most of my life with a camera in my face. Of course I like to think that I’ll always be mom and dad’s number one muse!

I’m always on the lookout for new artists and art to add to my “gallery”, so I’d love to hear which ones you are admiring currently! Post your links in the comments so we can all check out some amazing art together! Yay for artists!

The Return of the Speed Bump

Ever since I initiated the “Dachshund Speed Bump” at work 2 years ago it has become a permeant fixture in the shop.

The location of the “speed bump” changes slightly from day to day, but the main idea is always the same …..

ammo the dachshund at work

…..get as many people as possible to slow down and pet you.

I’ll admit, it does sometimes make for an exhausting work day.

The hours are long and grueling and you have to be willing to work for dog biscuits alone.

But, it helps to keep yourself limber and stretch out every hour or so during the day.

So next time you visit my shop please make sure you do not pass over the Dachshund Speed Bump….because I’m watching you!

Happy New Dachshund Art!

Hey pals! I’m inviting you back into my home office again today, because ever since it got a design upgrade a few months ago – I’ve been slowly adding to my art collection on the walls, and today I wanted to share with you my newest addition!

See all the happy wall of art above my desk? Can you spot the newest addition to my collection?

It’s a new happy little Dachshund print from Yellow Brick Home that my mom helped me custom frame at the shop!

Kinda reminds you of someone, right?

Now, if you’ll excuse me – I’ve got to get back to work, these papers won’t file themselves!

You can fetch your own Dachshund prints from Yellow Brick Home in their Etsy Shop! Yay!

Street View

You might remember that a few months ago when Hurricane Irene hit my home town, that the awnings at my shop took a bit of a beating. Mom and I decided that they needed to be replaced so we hemmed and hawed for weeks over what color they should be (the original color was discontinued – so we had to replace all of them) and what the lettering should say.

My vote of course was bright yellow with “HOME TO AMMO THE DACHSHUND” on the awnings. Unfortunately I was out voted because mom said she gets two votes since she’s the boss. Phooey!

So yesterday I stopped by the shop to check out the awning progress as they began to be replaced.

I was a little jealous my name wasn’t on them, but I have to say they did look classy.

And today when I got to see the full finished effect – I really did like them.

Mom said we still have some changes to make, like removing the lettering on the windows and maybe adding a neon sign on the corner – but she promised me that as a compromise maybe she’d put a picture of me in the window on the shop door, yea!

Shop Update and Dachshund Wares

Tuesday is my “Monday” at the shop, as mom and I reluctantly say goodbye to our weekend and head back to work. Mom’s always super busy on Tuesdays. Placing orders, answering e-mails, framing, and doing other businessey things that totally bore me. Yesterday was no exception while mom spent several hours updating the Studio’s online shop.

This is what I looked like while I waited patiently for the inevitable “break time” – which means a walk and playtime to me!

But in the end a little bit of me did shine through on the shop update…

…by way of my adorable face in a series of photobooth art! I know, I’m such the super model right?

Every shop needs a little “Dachshund” to make you smile! Don’t you think?
