Dude Night with Barkbox

Date Night with Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Last week my monthly Barkbox subscription arrived. It’s always exciting to peek inside that little cardboard box each month to see what special goodies have arrived.

Date Night with Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Each month Barkbox sends some dog-gone great products featured around a certain theme, this month the theme was date night. Inside my box was a Sushi Pups toy, a Loopies cigar toy, Complete Natural Nutrition Cheese popcorn (which was safe for human consumption too), an Etta Says chew, and Max & Ruffy’s blueberry treats.

After I checked out what was in the box I realized Barkbox had it all wrong…..it wasn’t a date night box…..it was a dude’s night box!

Date Night with Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

So I invited all my dudes over to partake in my Barkbox fun. Ok well technically Cricket the cat isn’t a dude, but she’s so cool she’s practically one of the guys.

Date Night with Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Minnow the pony and I wasted no time in digging into our Barkbox goodies.

Date Night with Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Minnow went after the Loopies cigar, while I zeroed in on the Etta Says chew!

Just a couple of dudes chewing on things!

While Minnow enjoyed playing with my cigar toy, I’m sure he was wondering when they are going to come out with a Ponybox, because dog cookies weren’t exactly the treat he was hoping for. That’s ok, there’s more for me!

Date Night with Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

My Dudes Night with Barkbox was a total success! I even had to check to make sure Cricket wasn’t taking home seconds!

Big Blizzard

2014 Blizzard with Ammo the Dachshund

Last Thursday when I awoke there was a whole lot of snow outside my door. As in 15+ inches of fluffy white stuff!

2014 Blizzard with Ammo the Dachshund

Of course the first thing I did was pile on my jackets and head outdoors to catch some snowflakes!

Running like a crazy dog through the snow was totally worth being chilly for just a few minutes. So fun in fact, that I headed out to the farm for some more winter adventures with my ponies!

Even the ponies had fun in the snow!

Despite the inches upon inches of snow we received (and keep continuing to receive), I just can’t get on board with “snow bashing”. It might be cold and wet, difficult for mom and dad to shovel, and somewhat of a hazard – but when else do you get to make memories like these? Snowday fun is just the kind of adventures I needed this winter!

How about you, do you enjoy snow day adventures as much as me?

Weekend Smiles

Muddy Ponies // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I visited my ponies on the farm. It was muddy and wet and oh so much fun!

I even had a little fun digging for critters!

What kind of fun did you have this weekend? Ammo the Dachshund

Fair Hill International goes to the Dogs

Over the weekend I took my very first trip to the Fair Hill International Event, one of the most prestigious international three day events in the world, this is the ultimate test of a horse and rider. Through tests in dressage, endurance, and stadium jumping the horse and rider teams work together to show that they can compete in the most demanding and highest levels of equestrian sports.

But before I could attend the event, I had to go on my very first school bus ride!

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper tagged along with me on this adventure, and we were both pretty excited about taking the bus to the event grounds from the parking lot.

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

I can only imagine how exciting it must be to take the bus everyday to school! Those lucky kids! I even sang the wheels on the bus during the ride just to make it even more fun.

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

Once in the park I quickly made my way to the arena, because the real reason I came to the Fair Hill International was to cheer on my friends from the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team!

Made up entirely of Chincoteague Ponies (and the only one in the world), the drill team performs at events to choreographed music. It was great to see my friends again, as I had not seen them since I went to Chincoteague a few years ago so that my pony friends could frolic on the beach.

After I said goodbye to my friends I was ready to check out the other events at the Fair Hill International. (Above is me pictured with Misty’s Icicle, the only cremello colored pony in the Misty family line of ponies)

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

Of course my number one mission was to RIDE A PONY! But since most of them were busy competing I settled for this cardboard cutout of one instead.

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

And here’s what I would look like if I was a world class eventer like the riders that were competing at Fair Hill! Dashing right?

Next up I hit up the Dog Agility area, where they very nicely let me try a practice course – which was the first time I tried a course outside of my weekly classes at the Dog Training Center. I was a little distracted by all the smells on the course (and the fact that some of the obstacles seemed a bit different than what I was used to), but I did complete all the obstacles!

You may have heard my pal Trooper crying in the background of the video – he was utterly convinced that the course was going to eat me up if he wasn’t out there to protect me – or better yet, herd me around the scary obstacles. Oh Trooper, such a silly boy.

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

Next I headed over to watch some of the show jumping on the hill with the other dogs. You might not be able to tell from this photo, but almost every person came to the event with a dog. Great Danes, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Greyhounds, Jack Russells, Labradors, and I even spotted a few Dachshunds among them.

Fair Hill International with Ammo the Dachshund

Watching the show jumping was quite spectacular as the horses soared through the air, but I have to admit, the Fair Hill International really wore me out!

I’m already counting down the days until next years event though!

Kong Premium Treats Product Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

You might remember that a couple of months ago I got to test out the new line of Kong Premium Treats, which were oh so yummy. Well now they have released a new batch of goodies, and of course I couldn’t wait to get my paws on them too!

Kong Premium Treats Product Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Kong Pumpkin Stix

  • No Wheat, Corn or Soy
  • No Animal By-Products
  • No Harmful Preservatives or Colorants
  • Contains Vitamins and Minerals

These treats were soft, and great for stuffing into one of the kong toys I already owned. I think the Pumpkin Stix were my favorite of the Kong Premium Treats that I got to test out.

Kong Premium Treats Product Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Kong American Chicken Tenders

  • Made in USA
  • All Natural
  • No Fillers
  • No Additives

These were a tougher chew that was much larger – but that didn’t stop me from chowing down!

Kong Premium Treats Product Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Kong Double Rawhide Chews

  • 100% U.S. Beef Hide (Processed in Mexico)
  • No Harmful Preservatives
  • Helps Clean Teeth and Freshen Breath
  • Great Tasting and Long Lasting

These rawhide chews were definitely longer lasting, so if you have a dog that you need to keep occupied, then these are the treats for you. They might be better suited for a larger dog though, and always make sure you supervise your dog when giving them rawhides as they can sometimes be a choking hazard.

Below is a video of Trooper and I chowing down on these delicious Kong Premium Treats. Being taste testers is the best!

And now for your chance to do your very own taste test!

Snapshots of my Life

Instagram is by far one of my mom’s (and mine) favorite apps. It’s a way for me to share a tiny little glimpse into everyday life, whether that be running around on the farm, napping at work, or going on a fabulous adventure. So for those of you that don’t already follow me on Instagram, here’s a little peek into my everyday life:

When Dogs run Horse Shows

On the Obstacle Course // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I found myself on an obstacle course at the family farm. Designed to test the horseback riders’ ability to navigate a scary and complex course, I was excited to see how what kind of reaction my obstacles would produce.

When it became clear that not much seemed to worry these horse and rider pairs, I tried to up the anti by enlisting the help of a few groundhogs I know. Unfortunately they weren’t home at the time.

An Average Weekend

An average weekend for me is probably actually not that average. See my family is always on the go go go, and one weekend adventure always leads to another.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Most days always start out on the farm, with my daily farm chores like feeding the ponies and making sure everything is in order.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Then usually it’s out to lunch – always at a dog friendly dining establishment!

Then it’s off to burn some calories by going on a hike!

On the way home we make a pit-stop at the hardware store to pick up supplies for more weekend projects.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

I take a quick rest, because I know we’ll be stopping for ice cream on the way home too.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

With all these weekend adventures it’s no wonder that by the time I arrive home again I look like this! And it’s not even bedtime yet!

I can’t complain though, because weekend adventures are the best! Ammo the Dachshund
