Friday Fetch: Ruffwear + Best Friends RAD Adoption Program

Typically on my Friday Fetch posts I like to share a cool pet product I’m lusting after, but this time I decided to share something different. Today I wanted to talk about the new pet adoption program with Ruffwear (one of my favorite adventure-dog gear sites) and the Best Friends Animal Society.

Ruffwear + Best Friends Animal Sanctuary adoption Program // Ammo the Dachshund

This Ruffwear Adventure Dog Adoption Program is setting out to match adventure-loving, outdoor oriented Ruffwear customers with high-energy, fresh air-seeking dogs from the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Check out the video below to find out more about this fantastic program:

You can find out more about the available dogs through the RAD Adoption Program by visiting the Ruffwear Facebook Page.

Even if you aren’t in a position to adopt a dog, you can still help! Share this post with your friends and spread the word about the amazing adoptable dogs out there!

Happiness and Buttercups

You know, sometimes it’s the simple things in life that can bring you the greatest joy.

Ammo the Dachshund Runs through a Field of Buttercups

For example, a few weeks ago I happened across a field of buttercups while on a walk with my mom and dad. And what I did next instantly put a smile on my face…

And to get the full effect you have to run like no one’s watching.

Superhero Adventures on the Farm

Way back in the fall of last year my buddy Trooper and I had some very special visitors to the farm. Special enough that we had to break out our super hero gear!

Adventures with Max and Duke from Sleepypod // Super Heroes // Ammo the Dachshund

Because if you’re going to meet new friends, then you might as well make sure you look too cool for school! (and also a little intimidating).

Adventures with Max and Duke from Sleepypod // Super Heroes // Ammo the Dachshund

When our special farm guests showed up I’m pretty sure they were quite impressed with mine and Trooper’s super-ness. Our new friends, Max & Duke, turned out to be pretty cool too, because they are the the super brave crash test dummies from Sleepypod!

Adventures with Max and Duke from Sleepypod // Super Heroes // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I spent the day showing Max & Duke just what it’s like to be heroes on the farm. You can read all about our adventures with them on the Sleepypod Blog.

And spoiler alert….there may have been some groundhog holes involved (what’s a trip to the farm without a tour of my holes?)…..

…and perhaps a little pony drool too. (Sorry Duke!).

But you’ll have to find out exactly what went down by heading over to Sleepypod. And make sure you follow them on Facebook to see where Max & Duke are headed next…..perhaps it will even be a town near you! Ammo the Dachshund

The Dogs Before Me

In the 6 years that I have known my mom and dad it’s hard for me to imagine that before I came along there were other dogs. Like lots of other dogs! Crazy right?

Well ok, technically I’m the very first dog for my dad, but my mom….she’s had many adventures with the dogs before me. So today since it’s #throwbackthursday I thought it would be fun to share some of those dogs that came before me. Because you know what, I’m not so different from them.

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Deacon // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom started her love of dogs at a very young age. Here she is with one of the firsts, a rescue dog named Deacon.

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Sneakers // Ammo the Dachshund

If you fast forward to 1991 – my mom’s family rescued Sneakers. She was a golden mix, and if you look closely you can see her two front paws were white, as if she was wearing sneakers. She went on to be a 4-H dog and even earned her Canine Good Citizen certification.

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Sneakers & Jack // Ammo the Dachshund

But see, my mom loved dogs so much that she wanted a dog to call her very own. So after years of pleading she became the owner of her very first dog, a rescued black labrador retriever named Big Jack Attack. (Jack for short).

Throwback Thursday: The Dogs Before Me // Jack // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom tells me stories of how Jack was a big lovable bear. He literally would attack you for kisses when you came in the door (sounds a little bit like me too). The more stories I hear about my mom’s life with Jack, the more I can’t help but think we were pretty darn similar.

While Jack passed away in 2006, I know that his memory continues to live on in many of the things that I still do today. I only wish I could have met him, because something tells me we would have been great friends.

There are many many more stories I could share about the dogs before me, but we’ll have to save that for another time. Now it’s your turn to tell me, what sort of fun memories did you have of your beloved furry friends? Ammo the Dachshund

What are you looking forward to this Spring? Ammo the Dachshund

Spring Bark and Where I’m Headed Next

I’ve got some exciting news! Recently I found out that I’m a finalist in the BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards for the Best Dog Blog & Best Pet Blog Photo.

Ammo the Dachshund Studio Photos

It’s enough to make me feel like a celebrity!

What makes the Nose-to-Nose awards a little different is that this is the only pet industry awards on which pet bloggers and micro-bloggers are judged on the expertise, performance, and creativity of their blog. Each category is judged by a distinguished panel of professionals, and not by popular vote. So don’t worry I won’t be begging for votes (not that I’ve ever been a fan of that anyway), now begging for cookies, that’s another story!

Ammo the Dachshund Studio Photos

Oh gosh, I can just feel the love!

The best part is that winners will be revealed in an exclusive red carpet ceremony at the BlogPaws Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee at the end of May.

My Bags are Packed // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m already excitedly making some plans so I can hopefully take a week-long road trip to attend the event. Which is great news for you too, because that means when I get back from my trip I’ll have a whole SLEW of adventures to share with you! You know, like where the best trees to pee on in Tennessee are, and what kind of squirrels they have in Virginia….the important stuff.

Nashville, Tenessee - Road Trip // Ammo the Dachshund

So if you know of any great dog friendly spots that I can stop and see on my road trip in a couple of months let me know in the comments below! I can’t wait!

AND THAT’S NOT ALL….

Details below are brought to you by Barkbox and contain affiliate links. But don’t worry, all opinions are entirely my own and I wouldn’t be telling you about Barkbox if I didn’t love them as much as I do!

If that weren’t enough good news…..I’ve got even more! Barkbox is having a Spring Bark Celebration this month with some extra goodies just for you! Woohoo #SpringBark2015

Ruffwear is one of my favorite dog brands when it comes to rough and tumble adventure gear for pets and pet lovers. So when they came out with their new collection of spring gear I was excited to get the chance to test out their new Haul Bag.

Now my mom, she’s a self-proclaimed “bag lady” – she has bags for everything! And the Haul Bag is the perfect thing to keep us all organized for our up and coming adventures.

Ruffwear Haul Bag Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

In fact, the Haul Bag is so roomy that it could even haul me around if need be!

Adventures in the Snow

Adventures in the Snow // Ammo the Dachshund

Woohoo! Snow!

Yeah, that may not be the typical reaction that all northerners like me have when the sky dumps a big old pile of snow in your backyard. Especially when it’s almost March and the feeling that Spring can’t come soon enough is an epidemic.

But you know what, I really do love the snow.

The dashing part is especially fun! I like to pretend I’m being chased by a pack of wild wolves, only I’m so much faster than them that there is no way they can ever catch me. Hopefully I’ll never actually have to live in that moment, but just in case I’ll keep practicing.

Adventures in the Snow // Ammo the Dachshund

And for those pups out there that don’t like to “blaze their own trail” in the snow, I’ve got news for you, you better start practicing, because you never know when those wolves are going to come out of nowhere!

I’m actually such an expert at blazing trails in the snow that you can hardly tell when I need to take a break to make some yellow snow.

Adventures in the Snow // Ammo the Dachshund

Those wolves will never see it coming when they slip in my icy patch of yellow snow!

Always one step ahead. *wink* Ammo the Dachshund

Fuji and Friends Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: This post and giveaway are brought to you by Fuji and Friends.

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Fuji and Friends are the makers behind vintage styled apparel for the whole family (with a canine twist).

And when I hear the word canine, I can’t help but be involved! After all, I am a canine.

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The vintage styled T-shirts from Fuji and Friends are the kind of shirt you just love to wear. Extra soft, with that worn-in feel. Well, or so I’m told (on account of I go naked most of the time).

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

But the absolute best part is all the fun (vintage style) designs they carry…..all of which feature dogs!

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Because really, if you’re going to have your humans wear a t-shirt, it might as well have a dog on it! Of course I picked out this fabulous Spirit of Adventure shirt in brown heather for my mom, as I love to live everyday of my dog life as if it were the greatest adventure of them all.

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Fuji and Friends shirts come tag-less (the greatest, most important feature according to my mom) and are made of 50% cotton and 50% polyester.

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I must admit, their spirit of adventure t-shirt made both me and my mom want to go on our next big adventure ASAP. I’m thinking dog friendly road trip!

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I only have one regret with this new t-shirt though…

Fuji and Friends T-Shirt Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

….it doesn’t come in a doggie size! boo hoo! But perhaps they’ll add to their growing selection of designs – a dog sized one too!

So if you’re looking to update your wardrobe soon, I highly recommend you check out Fuji and Friends! You can even save 20% off your next order with code event20.

Throwback Thursday: That Time I got Stuck Under a Shed

So yeah…..there was that one time way back when that I got stuck underneath a shed in the Pocono Mountains.

Full disclosure here though, I MAY have been purposely under there in the pursuit of a rodent. And “stuck” might be a bit of a generous term when you consider the fact that I really didn’t want to come out from under the shed….I mean who else was going to get that rodent out from under there?

Don’t worry though, I eventually got “un-stuck”…..well mostly I just came out because it was time for my dinner!
