Friday Fetch: Ruffwear + Best Friends RAD Adoption Program

Typically on my Friday Fetch posts I like to share a cool pet product I’m lusting after, but this time I decided to share something different. Today I wanted to talk about the new pet adoption program with Ruffwear (one of my favorite adventure-dog gear sites) and the Best Friends Animal Society.

Ruffwear + Best Friends Animal Sanctuary adoption Program // Ammo the Dachshund

This Ruffwear Adventure Dog Adoption Program is setting out to match adventure-loving, outdoor oriented Ruffwear customers with high-energy, fresh air-seeking dogs from the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Check out the video below to find out more about this fantastic program:

My Trip to the SPCA

In keeping with my goals for the 13 Project I have been collecting unwanted towels and blankets for the past few months. So this past weekend I decided I finally had a big box filled enough to make a trip to my local SPCA.

I was excited to lend a helping paw and put my old towels to good use by giving them to animals that could use them more than me. I knew they would love them because I personally tested each and every one for optimal softness.

So we loaded up the car and headed to the Chester County SPCA. I had to wait in the car while Mom and Dad took my donation inside, but when they returned they shared with me some of the pets that were looking forever homes at the SPCA.

Duke is a super lovable family dog who is 4 years old. He loves all people and kids and is already housebroken. If you want someone to play fetch with, then this is the boy for you!

This sweet girl Ginger, a terrier mix, was Mom and Dad’s favorite. She had the cutest little face and silly little ears that stood straight up. She is about 1-3 years old and was found as a stray.

Mom said she wished we could have brought all of the puppies looking for families home with us, but since that’s just not possible for us we hope that by donating towels and blankets we can do our part to help in some way. Even if it’s just a small thing.

So who else is with me in helping the shelters? There is always something you can do to help; adopt a dog, donate old blankets & towels, share adoptable pets with your friends and family – I know you can do it! We can all be heroes for the animals just looking for a little love. Ammo the Dachshund

Spreading the Love

Since it’s now officially 2011, that means it’s time for me to make my donation to my special charity of choice! For me that would be the Main Line Animal Rescue this year.

Over the past 8 months (since I first dove into the World of Art), I’ve been slowly setting aside some money to make my donation. And since my friends like to help out with a good cause too, The Painting Ponies helped make my donation even bigger this year. Thanks Minnow, Blitz & Boomer!

The MLAR mission statement:

Main Line Animal Rescue specializes in the rescue and placement of abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals. We never discriminate on the basis of health, age or breed. By involving and educating the community, Main Line Animal Rescue works to raise the public’s awareness of the plight of homeless animals as well as realizing the benefits of adopting an animal in need. Our animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before they are placed in carefully screened homes.

I also decided to share with you some very special friends that are currently up for adoption at MLAR.

Meet Belinda, a 7 year old black and tan female Doxie. Looking for someone to love her!

This is Betty, an 8 year old black and tan female long hair Doxie.

Pretzel is an 11 year old black Dachshund looking for a nice family to call his  own.

I am totally potty trained, love to go for short walks and am content to just sit next to my owner or lay by the windows where the sun comes in. I am a little timid so would do best with a quiet home. I am very sweet and will get so excited when you walk in the door. I run around in circles and hop around wagging my tail. I am presently being fostered by a family with two other dogs, but to be honest I’m not that interested in either of them. I am much more interested in people. Please come and meet me and see for yourself how adorable I am.

Rodney is a 7 year old red Dachshund looking for someone to love him!

There are lots more LOVELY dogs available for adoption at MLAR (not just doxies) – I just have a soft spot in my heart for my short and long brothers from another mother. So if you’re looking to bring someone into your home to love FOREVER AND EVER, be sure to check out MLAR – or any other local rescue in your area…..every dog deserves a home and someone to love them!

I send all my love to all the animals out there looking for their forever homes. Hugs and Kisses, your pal Ammo.
