Following Instinct - Ammo the Dachshund finds a Groundhog Hole

Some dogs are born with it, some dogs aren’t. And I can’t help that I was cursed blessed with this amazing nose that can lead me to a groundhog hole deep in the woods, through thickets and brush, where no one else knows it exists.

My poor pal Trooper doesn’t have this gift, sometimes I’m surprised he even knows which way is up. (love ya Troop!)

Without me the world would be full of unknown groundhog holes, unattended, and unwatched.

And for some reason, I don’t think my special skills are very appreciated around here!

Sigh. It’s an uphill battle for me every single day. The struggle is real my friends. #DachshundLifeStruggle

Dachshund Goes Camping in the Rain

Tent Camping in the Rain with Ammo the Dachshund

Every year I go tent camping with friends during the summer. It’s a fun trip (filled with dog friendly adventures) that I look forward to all year long!

Especially since I get to spend all weekend with this lovely lady, my pal Shilah the Husky!

This year’s camping trip was a little different, because when I woke up on Saturday morning it was raining. And not just a little bit of rain, it POURED ALL-DAY-LONG!

The rain sort of put a damper on all the fun activities we had planned, but lucky for me mom packed my raincoat, and I wasn’t going to let the wetness stop me from having a good time.

The campsite we rented this year came with a bare-bones rustic cabin (although I always tent camp!), and thankfully the porch provided the perfect haven for lounging during the heavy rain.

Eventually we all started to get cabin fever though, and when the rain lightened up just a bit it was time to venture out for some outdoor fun (with our raincoats of course).

Even my camera crew dressed appropriately for the weather – so that I would have all these great pictures to share with you!

Our campsite had this neat stream that ran through it, and I quickly discovered my new favorite activity…..FISHING!

Consider my mind fully blown when Shilah’s dad actually caught a fish!

BEST DAY EVER! I love fishing!

And then when the fish we caught got released back into the water I couldn’t help myself from starting my own rescue mission. I mean he might drown!

I never did succeed, hopefully Mr. Fish was a good swimmer!

After a full day in the cold wet rain we all were a bit soggy, myself included.

So we had to make a trip into town to dry off, get food (for the folks that didn’t eat dog food), and make a walmart run for more rain gear!

After all my excitement in the rain I was pretty pooped. Thankfully my tent was nice and dry, and the perfect haven to rest up for another day of camping fun!

Stay tuned next week when I continue my adventures in the woods, where I even made a trip to the lake!

Wondering where to get any of my great camping gear? Be sure to check out my gear page!

P.S. Special thanks to Shilah’s mom from Mrs. Dailey’s Classroom for all the great photos of our soggy camping experience (the ones not watermarked with my website)!Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Adventures in Disc Golf

Adventures in Disc Golf // Ammo the Dachshund

Last weekend I took a trip to the French Creek State Park – which would prove to be my first adventure on the Disc Golf Course.

A combination of frisbee and golf, the object is to get your frisbee into the provided targets at each hole.

Of course I was a natural – as I am with most things! *wink*

Aside from the goal of throwing the frisbee around the course, there was quite a bit for me to investigate on this adventure.

Being in the wilderness is one of my all time favorite things – but after a day of trekking around the course I was quite happy that this state park had a lake too.

Nothing like a dip in the water to beat the heat!

If you’re looking for a dog friendly adventure check out the French Creek State Park. The trails are pet friendly as is the boat rental. Also lots of camping areas that allow pets. Ammo the Dachshund

Woodland Creature

Ah the smell of the great outdoors! It’s right up there with the smell of dead animals, bacon, and ponies. Being a farm dog means that there is PLENTY to explore. With 20 glorious acres on the family farm, there is lots of untouched and uncharted territory for one short legged Dachshund like myself. So when mom asked me last week if I wanted to go exploring in the woods, what else can you say but, heck yes I do!

It’s been a while since I last explored me some woods out at the farm, so I kinda thought there might be a chance of finding some woodland creatures. Alas, no hidden gnomes or scary trolls in these parts. Not even a hint of leprechaun gold either! Drat.

Woodland creature hunting sure wore me out. Me and Trooper are already planning our next exploring trip. I told Trooper we need to get a super cool predator vision night goggle cam like our pal Baxter the Dachshund so we can catch those sneaky leprechauns when they come out at night. hehe.
