First Steps

You are my Sunshine

This first year of my sister’s life has been filled with many firsts (holy cow can you believe she’ll be a year old very very soon), and just like any good brother I’ve been there for most of them. I was there when she laughed for the first time while watching me shred up paper and when she crawled for the first time towards me – so it’s only natural that when she finally took her first steps they would be in my direction!

At 9 months and 28 days Baby P took her first steps across the room to bring me a pair of her cowgirl boots. While no one was able to capture these initial first steps on camera, they did get the next few after that!

In just a few weeks she’s already cruising all around the house now – and I’m the one that can’t keep up with her!

I can’t wait to see what she learns next. Perhaps it will be how to get the cookies out of the cookie jar for me.Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 10

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

It’s happened again. My little sidekick turned a whole month older! And a whole lot has changed in just one month.

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

Baby P suddenly doesn’t seem so “baby” anymore. She now waves hello and goodbye to me, can give me high-fives, and even claps when I do something extra goofy. (which is like all the time apparently).

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

But the biggest change….Baby P is now WALKING! Yes, that’s right. Just a few days shy of turning 10 months she got those first few steps in. And can you guess what she was walking to? That’s right, me! (I’ll have to share the video later….although my camera crew missed the very first ones…shame on them!)

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

Baby P’s favorite thing though….if you haven’t already guessed….dogs! She loves to “bark” woof woof excitedly whenever she sees a dog (or me), or even a picture of a dog. We should have expected nothing less, because I’m the coolest dog there is and it’s no wonder she thinks she’s a dog too!

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

Now that she’s getting increasingly mobile I definitely have to watch my back…

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

..because her big bear hugs….

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

….and kisses seem to come out of nowhere!

Not to worry though, mom and dad are always right there yelling “gentle” the entire time. Hopefully soon she will get the hang of “closed mouth kisses” and “pinch-less hugs” so I won’t have to be on guard so much. At least I know she means well!

Adventures of Ammo & Baby P: Vol 10

I have a feeling by next month I’ll have my backyard running playmate that I’ve been waiting for! I can’t wait!

So for everyone that wagered a guess last month as to when Baby P would start walking, it was June 5th!Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

Well it’s happened again, that smiley little sister of mine is another month older. Boy time flies when you’re having fun!

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

As you can see we are no longer sitting or laying down for our photos (apparently I’m the only one that can comply to the “sit” command) since Baby P is now cruising everywhere on the furniture and anything she can get her hands on.

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

I’m also a bit concerned, because Baby P has sprouted 2 shiny teeth, and if we’re being honest, they are way sharper than mine. Which means she probably will get first dibs on all the good chew bones. Sigh.

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

I guess I should be used to it by now, after all, she already steals all my dog toys too. Like this pretzel from my pals at the Barkshop*. (P.S. you can use code AMMO at checkout for a special surprise!)

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

I guess I don’t mind sharing though, because Baby P gets in trouble on a daily basis for continuing to throw food off her high chair for me. She can be very thoughtful like that. Siblings gotta look out for each other, it’s a rule.

Adventures of Ammo + Baby P: Vol 9

Mom says Baby P might be walking pretty soon and that I better learn how to pick up my toys better if I don’t want her to play with ALL of them. Secretly I just hope she breaks every last one so I can get new toys. 😉 A dog can dream.

Happy 9 Months Baby P!

Just for fun, what date do you think Baby P will start walking? Leave me a guess in the comments below, we shall see who gets the closest! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

A Safe Adjustable Leash Option for Dogs + A Giveaway

Disclaimer: this post and giveaway is brought to you by Ruffwear and does contain affiliate links. All opinions are my own, and I only share products I think you and your dog will love!

A Safe Adjustable Length Dog Leash from Ruffwear + A Giveaway

It’s that time of year when one of my favorite pet companies, Ruffwear, comes out with their new Spring gear!

I was super excited this time around to be able to test out their new Slackline Leash.

A Safe Adjustable Length Dog Leash from Ruffwear + A Giveaway

At first glance it may look just like an ordinary dog leash, but I can tell you it is not.

A Safe Adjustable Length Dog Leash from Ruffwear + A Giveaway

The Ruffwear Slackline Leash is an adjustable-length leash from 6 feet to 3.5 feet. Its adjustable length can be fully extended for relaxed walks, or shortened for more control as needed.

Essentially this leash replaces those highly dangerous retractable leashes – which I don’t really recommend.

Mom and Dad love the padded handle which also includes a convenient accessory loop for pick up bags or small clip-on items.

The Slackline leash can also be handheld or waist-worn with the handy buckle, which also makes it easy if you ever need to tie your dog while out on a walk.

It’s also got reflective trim for safety, and comes in 4 fun colors: Twilight Grey (pictured), Meadow Green, Purple Dusk and Kokanee Red.

And incase you are wondering, there is still plenty of length to this leash when extended to allow me to explore all the fascinating places I find on my walks! And can still quickly shorten when I need to stay closer to mom and dad.

The Slackline Leash has been great for my walks to work in the morning, where sometimes I need to stay closer to mom incase of oncoming traffic. But don’t worry, I also always practice looking both ways before I cross the street (as seen in the video above).

You can fetch the new Ruffwear Slackline Leash for your dog for $39.95 (with FREE SHIPPING for orders over $75)!

And now for the best part….

How you can help animal rescues by walking your dog

What if I told you that by simply taking your dog for a daily walk you could be helping rescue animals? You’d probably say I was crazy right? Well guess what my friend, the future is here!

Earn money for rescue dogs by walking your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

It’s super simple with an app for iPhone & Android called Walk for a Dog by WoofTrax. All you have to do is download the free app, choose the rescue group you want to walk for, and start the app every time you take your dog for a walk.

Walk for a Dog also keeps track of the distance, speed, and duration your walks are, but the best part is no matter how long or short your walk is – you can still earn money for your rescue group of choice!

Walk for a Dog’s donations to animal organizations are funded by sponsorship, advertising, and investors, and they send donations to active shelters and rescues about twice per year.

I love that no matter whether I’m on my daily walk to work……

….or off on a monstrous hike with my doggie friends, I can still be helping rescue animals at the same time.

Ruffwear Front Range Harness Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween weekend, I know I sure did. I’ll be back later this week to share my Halloweenie adventures with you, but today I wanted to share with you a new product that I’m very excited about!

Ruffwear Front Range Harness Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Ruffwear’s new Front Range Harness is great for everyday wear, and a snap to put on your dog.

Ruffwear Front Range Harness Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

It has an aluminum V-Ring on the back for easy leash attachment, I also use mine in the car and it easily attaches to my seatbelt.

It also comes with a reinforced webbing attachment on the front so you can attach a leash there for additional control or training.

Mom and Dad also liked how there was padding underneath the buckles in the back, which makes it quick and easy to put my harness on without the risk of the buckles pinching my skin.

Another cool feature is the hidden ID pocket. Inside the little flap that says ID is a tether so you can attach your dog’s identification, then neatly tuck it into the pocket. It’s great for the hiking trail so you don’t have to worry about your dog’s tags getting caught on things.

And for the sake of never having enough ways to keep your dog safe, the inside of the harness also has a handy tag that you can write your dog’s name and phone number on, should they ever get lost (or should you ever loose your super cool new harness).

The Ruffwear Front Range Harness comes in 4 fun colors – Pacific Blue (which I’m wearing), Twilight Gray, Alpenglow Pink, and Campfire Orange.

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have already noticed that I’ve been wearing my Front Range Harness for all of my most recent adventures! It’s quickly become my favorite go – to walking harness.

And even though typically I prefer a harness that doesn’t go between my front legs, this one doesn’t seem to incumber the way I walk and I actually quite enjoy wearing it.

But wether I’m hiking the trails, or taking a stroll through town it’s comfortable enough to wear everywhere I go!

You can fetch your own Front Range Harness from Ruffwear for $39.95 in a variety of sizes for big and small dogs.

Friday Fetch: Petnovate Pull Stop Dog Harness

As a small dog you would be surprised at the amount of force I can produce during a walk when I want to. And while I wouldn’t say I’m a “bad” puller, it got me thinking about what products are out there for dogs that do like to pull. I stumbled across the Petnovate Pull Stop Harness.

The Pull Stop Harness is a no pull dog harness that uses your pet’s own pulling force to act against its front legs. When your pet pulls to a point that it’s walking faster than you, the force that you begin to feel at the leash starts to act against your pet’s front legs, which slows your pet down and thus reduces the pulling altogether. Pull Stop does so without applying any squeezing or discomfort to your pet.

While I’m not sure how well this would work on a small dog (although this does come in small dog sizes), I bet there are some big dogs out there that could benefit from a product like this!
