Dachshund vs. Bed Sheet

Did you know that dog toys are overrated? That’s right, what if I told you there was something everyone has in their house that your dog will LOVE to play with. Well I guess if they’re anything like me they’ll love it. Check me out as I have the BEST TIME EVER with an old bed sheet!

You may have caught my original bed sheet playing video on instagram, but incase you missed the shortened version you can check it out below:

How to make a Fake Rabbit Hole for your Dog

Disclaimer: this is NOT a sponsored post, but it does contain some affiliate links.

It’s no secret that I am OBSESSED with holes. After all, my breed was originally bred to go down holes and hunt down badgers.

And go down holes I do! My mom has had to pull me out of many ground hog holes around the farm over the years, and because of my affinity to go hunting whenever I feel like it I now wear a GPS tracker whenever I’m on the farm. While my tracker gives mom piece of mind, she’d still prefer my escapades kept me a little closer to the barn, which is why she decided to dupe me!

So I decided to share how my mom made me a DIY Fake Rabbit Hole so all you other dogs out there won’t get tricked like I did!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Rabbit Scent (or any other scent your dog might prefer)
  • Spray Bottle
  • Water
  • String (I used bailing twine)
  • Paper Towel
  • Shovel or Post Hole Digger

Step 1: Choose a spot to dig a hole about 2 feet deep. Make sure you choose a spot where no one could fall in it (placing a marker when it’s done is helpful too). A spot near a bush or tree makes it more believable to your dog as well.

DIY Fake Scent Hole for Hunting Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

As you can see just the sight of a hole was enough to get me interested!

Step 2: Mix your Rabbit Scent with some water in a spray bottle and mist it into the hole. You can make it stronger by foregoing the water if your dog doesn’t seem interested.

Step 3: Tie a paper towel to a string and mist with the rabbit scent. Drag the towel to and from the hole to leave a scent trail for your dog to follow.

Trooper and I picked up on the rabbit scent trail right away.

But only one of us really cared…..I’m pretty sure you can guess who!

Well I feel pretty silly getting tricked with a fake hole, but I did have a really good time digging to my hearts content. So fake or not, I don’t regret it one bit. Well except for the fact that it landed me in the bath a few hours later!

Do you think your dog would be tricked by a fake scent hole?

*Be advised that fake animal scents can attract other wild animals as well. So be aware of where you are putting it, and make sure to supervise your dog especially if they are out at night.Ammo the Dachshund

The Easter Bunny Came

Disclosure: This post is brought to you by my friends at Barkbox.

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

As you know Easter was this past Sunday. It’s one of my favorite holidays – as holidays that involve a bunny always make the top of my list! Alas though, when I woke up Sunday morning it seems I had just missed Mr. Bunny.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

But don’t worry, because the very special BarkBox Bunny never seems to miss my house, and this year was no exception. Check out the fun video of me diving into my Easter Basket:

That Barkbox Bunny knows just what kind of goodies I love!

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

After opening my basket I packed up and headed over to my mom-mom’s house where I was put in charge of hiding the easter eggs for all of my cousins (on account of I’m very good at finding hiding spots – mostly of the hole variety!).

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

That’s right, they’ll never find this one!

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

My cousins are pretty good at finding easter eggs, but I couldn’t let them have all the fun!

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

Too bad all the eggs I found had jelly beans in them….yuck!

Easter Bunny with Dachshund // Ammo the Dachshund

After the egg hunt it was time for dinner. Unfortunately my family forgot to set a place for me at the table! Can you believe it! Don’t worry though, I found the perfect spot to look pathetic and got handed plenty of little nibbles.

And after I was nice and stuffed one of my cousins volunteered to take me for a walk. I burned off all those calories in a matter of minutes hunting for more easter bunnies!

Adventures in the Snow

Adventures in the Snow // Ammo the Dachshund

Woohoo! Snow!

Yeah, that may not be the typical reaction that all northerners like me have when the sky dumps a big old pile of snow in your backyard. Especially when it’s almost March and the feeling that Spring can’t come soon enough is an epidemic.

But you know what, I really do love the snow.

The dashing part is especially fun! I like to pretend I’m being chased by a pack of wild wolves, only I’m so much faster than them that there is no way they can ever catch me. Hopefully I’ll never actually have to live in that moment, but just in case I’ll keep practicing.

Adventures in the Snow // Ammo the Dachshund

And for those pups out there that don’t like to “blaze their own trail” in the snow, I’ve got news for you, you better start practicing, because you never know when those wolves are going to come out of nowhere!

I’m actually such an expert at blazing trails in the snow that you can hardly tell when I need to take a break to make some yellow snow.

Adventures in the Snow // Ammo the Dachshund

Those wolves will never see it coming when they slip in my icy patch of yellow snow!

Always one step ahead. *wink* Ammo the Dachshund

Throwback Thursday: That Time I got Stuck Under a Shed

So yeah…..there was that one time way back when that I got stuck underneath a shed in the Pocono Mountains.

Full disclosure here though, I MAY have been purposely under there in the pursuit of a rodent. And “stuck” might be a bit of a generous term when you consider the fact that I really didn’t want to come out from under the shed….I mean who else was going to get that rodent out from under there?

Dachshund Gets Stuck Under Shed // Ammo the Dachshund

Dachshund Gets Stuck Under Shed // Ammo the Dachshund

Don’t worry though, I eventually got “un-stuck”…..well mostly I just came out because it was time for my dinner!

When Big Dogs Play with Small Dogs

There is one rule I always live by. It’s a rule that keeps me safe, makes me feel brave, and drives my best friend Trooper CRAZY!

When Big Dogs Play with Small Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

And that rule is…. ALWAYS CHOOSE YOUR HIDING PLACE BEFORE YOU PLAY WITH THE BIG DOGS!

When Big Dogs Play with Small Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

See those big dogs sometimes don’t understand how big they actually are. And they also don’t always realize how small you actually are. So when you have a PLAN B incase things get a little too rough, life is just a little bit easier.

When Big Dogs Play with Small Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper is never thrilled when I decide to take a trip into my hiding places, but even as much as I love playing with him – sometimes he doesn’t know his own size either.

When Big Dogs Play with Small Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

I mean just check out this photo of him accidentally kicking me the other day when we were playing on the farm.

I love you buddy, but sometimes you’re a big oaf.
