Camping in the Poconos with Dogs

Last week I started to recap my annual camping trip with my friend, Shilah the Husky, well now I’m back to share more about all the fun we had (despite the rain). It’s too much fun to fit into one blog post, so don’t worry, there’s even more fun than this to come ahead!

One of my favorite parts about camping is getting breakfast in bed. It’s one of those few occasion where I don’t even have to get up to enjoy a big bowl of my “cereals”.

Shilah and I were excited to see that the weather had begun to clear up some, and although the rain was on and off, it wasn’t down pouring all day like it had been. Yipee!

So we broke out the fishing poles again, and had a little contest with our dad’s to see who could catch the most fish. (spoiler alert, none of us caught any!)

That’s ok though, because there was still plenty to do on our camping trip, like hiking! We didn’t get to go to any of the great hiking spots we had staked out for our trip, but we did get to take some walks around our campsite.

We even stopped to take a few selfies along the way, it’s not often I get to spend 4 whole days with my pal!

There may have even been an awkward kiss at one moment. It’s still out for debate on who kissed who.

Do you blame me though, I mean how can you not sneak a kiss when you’re hanging out with a pretty girl like Shilah!

Back at camp things were starting to heat up since it was finally dry enough to start the campfire.

As our day started to come to an end Shilah and I broke out our Glowdoggies * so we could have our own personal “flashlights” in the dark. Although Shilah questioned, “won’t the bears just be able to spot us way easier with these things on?” I told her not to worry, I packed bear spray!

As darkness really crept in the campfire started roaring!

That’s always my cue to hit the hay early, because campfires (or any fire for that matter) are not really my jam. That’s ok though, I much prefer snuggling up in the tent under my sleeping bag anyway.

I am a little sad I did miss out on the light writing fun everyone had with sparklers, but mom and dad made sure to include me in their own special way…

….it’s my name in lights! I’m famous!

Even celebrities like me can totally get down and dirty on a camping trip!

Stay tuned this week as I still have more fun to share about our adventures at a nearby lake!

P.S. Special thanks to Shilah’s mom from Mrs. Dailey’s Classroom for sharing some of her camping photos with me (the ones not watermarked with my website)!

Camping in the Pocono Mountains

Camping in the Pocono Mountains with Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I packed my bags and headed for the mountains, the Pocono Mountains to be exact, for a weekend of camping and fun with my pal Shilah the Husky.

Shilah and I both made our way to the mountains ready for some adventures, and a bit of relaxing too.

Our rustic retreat included a super fun footbridge (the only way across the river) that Shilah and I thought was a blast!

Our parents perhaps could of wished they could park the car a little closer to our campsite. But like I say, a little exercise never hurt anyone!

Our digs for the weekend included a fun little cabin (although I opted to set-up and sleep in my tent) in the woods.

I of course wasted no time checking out all necessary “holes” to make sure no critters were intruding on our campsite.

The accommodations were quite rustic, including this outdoor shower, but when you’re a dog – none of that really matters does it!

A few steps from camp was a stream, complete with my very own waterfall!

Dad had fun casting out the fishing rod – which was a first for me. I’ve also since discovered that I get about as worked up about fishing as my adventurous pal, Crusoe the Dachshund. Although my main goal is trying to save that little bobber (or tiny floating ball as I saw it) from “drowning”. Mom says I need to work on the idea that fishing is supposed to be a relaxing sport, not a “bark as loud as you can and frantically try to save things out of the water” sport.

Aside from fishing, Shilah and I had fun relaxing around the campsite – taking in as much outdoor time as we could!

After a full day of fun, Shilah and I were ready for some campfire food! Unfortunately all we got was kibble…..but the smells were enough to make a dog drool.

As the night rolled on Shilah and I grew tired of patrolling the campsite in our Glowdoggies, and it seemed it was time to call it a night.

I snuggled into my sleeping bag dreaming of all the critters I would hunt for the next day…

And I awoke rested and ready for my next big adventure! Ammo the Dachshund

Dog Friendly Camping in Cape May

Over the weekend I went on a mini 3-day vacation to Cape May, New Jersey. While the main purpose of the trip was to soak up some sun at the beach (which I will get to in another post), I also got to log some camping hours – which is one of my favorite things to do!

My friend Shilah the Husky decided to come on this trip with me too – and it was to be her very first camping trip.

Shilah and I waited patiently for the cars to be packed, and oversaw that everything necessary made it into our caravan (squeaky toys, dog food, and cookies of course).

Then we loaded up the tightly packed car and made the 2 1/2 hour trip to Cape May, New Jersey.

We arrived at our dog friendly campsite at Seashore Campsites in Cape May. This campground was a bit more modernized than where I’m used to camping, with activity centers, snack shops, pools and swimming lakes (all of which do not allow dogs to enter), but I did spot lots of other friendly dog campers.

I even met this friendly dachshund named Theo!

Most of the campsites were under lots of wooded trees, which made it quite comfortable to camp even in the summer, although the camping areas were pretty tightly packed – making it a little difficult to find open areas for a dog to do his business.

I prefer a little more of a rustic camping experience personally, but I suppose to my fellow 2 legged campers it was nice to have warm showers nearby. (They can’t rough it like I can!)

My pal Shilah took to camping quite well considering this was her first experience. I even let her borrow my x-pen to make her trip a little more comfortable.

Shilah and I took our camp dog duties very seriously, and we guarded the area from any possible intruders. Ok well maybe guarding isn’t the right word when all we did was stare at passerby’s and wag our tails – but it was fun nonetheless!

One of my favorite things about camping is getting to sleep in a tent with my family. Something about being in nature is just so relaxing to me.

It also helps if you bring a comfy sleeping bag incase it gets chilly at night!

When it came time to head home from our weekend adventure I was sad to go – but I know I’ll be putting up my tent again soon, because this dog loves a good camping trip!

Tomorrow I’ll be back to share some more of the fun I had in Cape May! Ammo the Dachshund

Camping 101

I’m pretty much the king of camping.

ammo the dachshund camping

I’m so good at camping, that I even bring along my pony when I go camping.

Want to see inside my tent? It’s pretty cool.

I unrolled the sleeping bags all by myself.

Want to come see how I collect sticks for the campfire?

It’s key to whittle your sticks down to the right size – something they probably don’t tell you in the boy scouts, and I know, because I’m a stick collecting expert.

But as much as I’m an expert in all of the camping ways, could someone please do me a favor….

Can you tell the tent manufacturers that they really need to start making built in doggie-doors.

This is really cramping my style!
