12 Days of Cheer! DIY Holiday Dog Ornaments

One of my favorite things about the holidays is decorating the house with lots of Christmas Cheer! So this year my mom decided to help me make some festive ornaments to hang on my tree. These DIY Holiday Dog Ornaments will add a little WOOF to any home!

Step 1: After choosing photos of your pet to use (it helps if they have a white background) print them out on your iron-on transfer paper. Follow the directions on the package for printing, and remember to mirror your image.

Step 2: Cut your images out of the print-out.

Step 3: Iron on your images to your white fabric, making sure you follow the directions on your iron-on transfer paper package.

Step 4: Cut each image out of your fabric, making sure to leave at least a 1 inch space around each image. By using something as a template you can also cut them out in the shape of a circle, which will be easier to sew down the line.

Step 5: Next you will want to cut shapes out of your colorful Christmas fabric that are the same size as the images. These will serve as the backing for your ornament.

Step 6: Using the baker’s twine you’ll want to cut a small piece and tie it into a bow. Then with your needle and thread stitch your bow onto the image transfer of your pet.

Step 7: Then you will want to sew your ornament together. Place your colored fabric ONTOP of your image and then using your sewing machine (or by hand) stitch nearly all the way around your ornament, leaving about a 1/2 an inch of the fabric un-sewn.

Step 8: Flip your sewn ornament inside out so that now the image is on the outside. Then stuff with cotton.

Step 9: Cut a piece of bakers twine to be used to hang your ornament and knot it into a loop. Then using a needle and thread stitch the top of your ornament (and the loop) closed.

Step 10: Marvel in your diy-ness and enjoy your new ornaments!

12 Days of Cheer! Visiting Santa

Last week mom and dad took me to Waterloo Gardens to see Santa. I was so excited because I couldn’t wait to tell him all of the lovely gifts I wanted him to pack on his sleigh for me.

Mom and dad snapped lots of photos of me, and I made sure to pack my reindeer antlers….just in case Santa was in need of one more reindeer for his sleigh!

Sadly Santa saw right though my cardboard antlers, but he made me feel much better with a great big Christmas hug! Best day ever!

Little did I know, later in the week I’d get to see Santa again, this time at the Animal Clinic at Thorndale. This trip to Santa gave me a chance to donate money to the fund for Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief. Yay for helping the animals!

I’ll have to wait a bit longer to see the professional photos from Clocks for Seeing Photography, but mom and dad were able to snap this shot of me on Santa’s lap.

12 Days of Cheer // Ammo's trip to see Santa

Yes, I’ll admit – I was a bit frightened. But when Santa sets up shop in your vet’s office…..you can’t help but worry that his Christmas gift to you is bound to be a round of shots. Luckily he had mercy on me this year. Thanks Santa.

Now I only have 12 more days until I get to see Santa again – when he slides down my chimney on Christmas Eve! Yippee! Ammo the Dachshund

12 Days of Cheer! Ammo’s Christmas Wishlist

Dear Santa,

Even though I ate mom’s lunch at work (several times), barked at my next door neighbor (a lot), destuffed all my toys all over the house, and got mud on the new white sofa…..I really think I deserve all of the items on my Christmas Wish List. I will try harder next year.

xoxo, Ammo.

Ugly Sweaters and Holiday Cheer

Now that it’s December it’s about time we started singing Christmas carols, baking cookies, and wearing ugly holiday sweaters.

Ammo the Dachshund // Christmas Cheer // Bullseye the Target Dog

So when my pal Bullseye the Target Dog sent me a little box of “holiday cheer”, I knew he had the right idea.

Ammo the Dachshund // Christmas Cheer // Bullseye the Target Dog

So I stuffed myself into that ugly holiday sweater, whistled the tune to jingle bells, batman smells…. and had my own little holiday party.

It was glorious, and just what I needed to kick off the holiday season!

Make sure you check out all of Bullseye’s favorite holiday goodies at Target for your pooch this year – they’re sure to spread lots holiday cheer! Ammo the Dachshund

Christmas Tree Shopping

Every year around this time I go on a very special hunt. A hunt to find a Christmas Tree! Just like I have done for the past several years (2010, 2011) – my family and I headed out to the Tricolor Christmas Tree Farm. You know, the place where the trees are born.

It’s very important to get your tree early – as to have the pick of the very best trees – so that when Santa arrives on Christmas Eve he’ll be like:

“OMG this is the greatest tree ever, you deserve all the presents in my sack Ammo!”

Ammo the Dachshund // Christmas Tree Shopping

So when we arrived at the tree farm I wasted no time in choosing the very best tree on the lot! I just screamed holiday cheer!

I hurried along with dad to get my very precious tree to the car, because the most exciting part was next…….decorating it!

I’m pretty sure Santa will be very impressed.

13 Project Update and Thanksgiving Wishes

We’re a day away from Thanksgiving, and it has me thinking of all the animals out there that don’t have a family to spend turkey day with. I wish I could open my door to every single one of them, but since that’s just not feasible I know I can help to do my part through my efforts with the 13 Project.

A few weeks ago Serena from Pretty Fluffy had invited me to join The 13 Project, a wonderful initiative to get involved and help animals!

Ammo the Dachshund // The 13 Project

Incase you missed it….

THE 13 PROJECT

The 13 Project is a Pretty Fluffy initiative that involves 13 acts of kindness towards animals before 2013. The goal is to emmbark on a list of 13 achievable and worthy goals before the year is out.

To join, all you have to do is come up with a list of up to 13 ways you can help animals before the end of 2013. You don’t need to be a millionaire, you don’t need to have a website, or be a member of a rescue organization … all you need is the desire to make a difference. Any little bit helps!

Ammo the Dachshund // The 13 Project Pretty Fluffy

I’ve spent the last few weeks working on completing some of my goals, so I thought I would give everyone a little update on my progress so far.

My goals for the 13 Project….

1. Make a charitable contribution to some of my favorite rescue groups, as I have done for the past several years, through the help of sales of my paintings and artwork that my friends the Painting Ponies have made.

2. Get my photo taken with Santa at a place that donates the profits to rescue groups like I have done for the past 3 years.

3. Promote some local rescue group events to all of my followers through FacebookI have shared a few rescue events with my fans so far, but hope to share even more!

4. Purchase some toys from Planet Dog, where 2% of my sale goes to the Planet Dog Foundation, an organization that helps fund the training and placement of service dogs.

5. Share some of the available adoptable dogs (like I have done in the past) at the local shelters with my followers. I shared a few of the adoptable pets at my local SPCA, and I hope to continue to share some of my four-legged friends that are in search of their forever homes.

6. Donate some of my old towels to a local animal shelter. I took a trip to the Chester County SPCA and donated a big box of unwanted towels and blankets.

7. Create Holiday Greeting Cards for my Etsy Shop and donate a percentage of the sales to animal shelters. My 2012 Holiday Greeting Cards donate 2% of all the proceeds to the Main Line Animal Rescue. The more you buy the more I can donate!

8. Promote responsible pet ownership and encourage my readers to spay/neuter their pets.

9. Donate some of my outgrown sweaters and jackets that I no longer use to a rescue group that can use them for shelter dogs. I recently sent a donation of sweaters and jackets to the Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & New Jersey to keep the rescue dachshunds nice and warm. I encourage you to do the same!

10. Create a new page on the blog that highlights ways you can involved and help rescue animals, shelters, and good causes.

11. Purchase some Rescue Chocolate as Christmas gifts that donates 100% of their profits to animal rescues.

12. Try to promote more products on my Friday Fetch feature that donate a percentage of their sales to animal charities. Since I joined the 13 Project I am happy to say that just about every feature on Friday Fetch has helped out a rescue group/cause with the sale of their items.

13. Encourage others to get involved with the 13 Project! I’ve been pinning and sharing the 13 Project with all my fans!

I still have a ways to go to complete my list, but I’m making good progress! I hope you’ll join me in The 13 Project! I’d love to hear your ideas of animal kindness too, post links to your list of 13 goals in the comment section below so that we can all share and get inspiration on how to help more animals!

And to all the animals out there looking for forever homes I send all my love this Thanksgiving and every day. xoxo.
