Smarter than the average Cat

Ok I admit, I’ve been kinda busy scouting my groundhog holes on the farm (now that Spring has sprung and the critters are out to play) and not enough time attending to my girlfriend, Cricket the farmcat.

So when I spotted Cricket’s attempt at giving herself a brush with one of the ponies’ brushes, I kinda felt bad.

Even though I felt a tad guilty, you can’t argue that she’s pretty inventive!

Just another reason why I’m proud to call Cricket my girlfriend! Ammo the Dachshund

Lazy Farm Days

Lazy and Farm aren’t typically words that go together, but when the weather suddenly hits near 90 degrees in the Spring (when it was in the 40’s) it can get lazy on the farm pretty quick!

So here’s a little taste of what’s been going on around the farm lately:

Farm Duty

On the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Sometimes when we are out on the farm my buddy Trooper tends to be a little bit of a lost soul. He mopes around with that towel in his mouth, unsure about what to do next.

On the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

But Trooper is a herding dog, so I know when he has his towel he just really needs to be put to work. So lucky for him I’m an expert at putting my buddy to work.

On the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

All I have to do is point Trooper towards the ponies and he’s stuck to them like glue.

On the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Well, at least until he gets tired – so that’s why I have to keep my eyes on him at all times and make sure he keeps working.

Now that my Trooper babysitting duties are fulfilled I can get back to what I really love to do on the farm!

Missing the Farm

Those of you who are regular readers of my blog know that I’m a pretty active guy. I’m always going on exciting adventures, taking training classes, and generally just running around (boy do I love to run). But ever since Mom had surgery I’ve had to stay home a lot to take care of her. I don’t mind taking care of mom (and the good news is only 2 more weeks before we can return to regular adventures), but I do very much miss some things, like visiting my friends on the farm.

Missing the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

The good news is, Mom was missing the farm just as much as me, so over the weekend we took a trip out to visit all of my friends.

Missing the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

The Chincoteague Ponies missed me the most, and I missed Boomerang, Blitz, and Minnow just as much!

Missing the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

I also missed running! So I ran and ran and ran!

Missing the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

I also helped do farm chores, like herding the horses out to the pasture.

Missing the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

And then I ran some more! (Check out how much further along Trooper’s new house is! I can’t wait to give you the tour once Mom can walk a little better).

Missing the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I also did some wrestling. I won as always.

Then I spent the rest of my time on the farm helping to brush Minnow, my favorite pony in the whole wide world!

My time on the farm came and went too quickly. But I know soon we will be back to visiting my friends nearly every day – and it will be Spring! I can hardly wait! Ammo the Dachshund

Minnow goes to New Bolton

Chincoteague Pony, Minnow, visits New Bolton // Ammo the Dachshund

On Monday I arrived at the farm early to take my pal Minnow on a special outing.

Chincoteague Pony, Minnow, visits New Bolton // Ammo the Dachshund

Mom said Minnow was headed to the New Bolton Center, an internationally renowned large animal hospital, in other words the VET!

When we arrived I had to wait in the car, which was perfectly fine with me because going to the Vet is not my idea of a good time anyway.

Chincoteague Pony, Minnow, visits New Bolton // Ammo the Dachshund

Mom said Minnow was very brave, much braver than I am at the vet, as he got his 5 year check-up for Ringbone (which I’m told is arthritis in his ankle).

Minnow even got radiographs done of his legs, and I heard he didn’t even need to be drugged!

Chincoteague Pony, Minnow, visits New Bolton // Ammo the Dachshund

Minnow told me later that he kept looking over his shoulder wondering when I would come in to hold his hoof and make him feel better about being poked and prodded. I knew no one could be that brave at the vet!

Chincoteague Pony, Minnow, visits New Bolton // Ammo the Dachshund

Minnow’s radiographs showed how much of a Super Hero he really is – as his bones have been trying to fuse together over the past 5 years to alleviate pain in his joint. In other words, he’s growing a bionic leg!

Chincoteague Pony, Minnow, visits New Bolton // Ammo the Dachshund

When we got back to the barn Boomer and Blitz were waiting for us, and I told them all about how brave our Super Minnow was and all about his bionic leg.

And incase you’re wondering about Minnow’s prognosis…..he and I still have many more years of superness ahead!

Snowday with the Ponies

Ammo the Dachshund // Snowday

On Friday I got to leave work early on account of the snow that made it’s way to Pennsylvania.

Ammo the Dachshund // Snowday with the Ponies

Of course a little bit of snow never stops me from having an adventure, so I bundled up in my jackets and decided to have some fun on the farm. Did you know that ponies like to have snowdays too?

My New Yellow Glowdoggie Collar

Disclaimer: This review is brought to you by Glowdoggie.

My pals over at Glowdoggie (Hi Leila and Harriet!) recently sent me a new lightsaber led glow collar to take for a whirl.

Glowdoggie LED Glow Collar for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m no stranger to the super awesome LED collars that Glowdoggie sells, in fact I currently own the red, blue, and green mini collars. So I was really excited to test out their new Yellow Mini Collar.

Glowdoggie LED Glow Collar for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

I use my Glowdoggie collars ALL THE TIME, especially on the farm. I also wear one every time I go out in my backyard at night or for a walk in the evening.

Glowdoggie LED Glow Collar for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Mom says they keep me safe and make it easier for her to know exactly where I am. I admit I like to wander a bit when I’m at the farm.

Glowdoggie LED Glow Collar for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

These collars are super bright (the photos don’t do it justice) and I’m so glad to have a product that makes it so mom feels safe enough to let me explore the farm on my own in the dark.

Here are some great features about this product:

  • 100% waterproof, not just water-resistant (I’ve worn mine in the water, through the mud, and down groundhog holes with no problems)
  • 2 year warranty, but they last considerably longer (I’ve had some of mine for 3+ years and they are still going strong)
  • K-9 Search & Rescue tested and approved
  • Extremely robust, durable construction
  • Superflux-LEDs with over 150,000 hours shine-life
  • Superior visibility at night or in low-light situations (I’m visible all night long on the farm)
  • Intelligent battery-management technology for long battery life  (Mom changes the batteries on mine about once a year!)
  • Automatically turns on&off thanks to patented motion sensor chip (by simply holding the collar upside down the light will turn off, I store mine on the doorknob by the backdoor for easy use)
  • Perfect for North America’s often extreme weather conditions

I can’t say enough good things about Glowdoggie, it really is one of those products I just can’t live without!

You can fetch your own Glowdoggie Collar HERE. And make sure you check out my other posts about Glowdoggie HERE.

Disclosure: I received a glowdoggie collar in exchange for a review, but all opinions are my own!Ammo the Dachshund

Farmyard Fun with a Dog in the Fog

This is totally going to be the name of my children’s book someday, “Farmyard Fun with a Dog in the Fog”. It sounds like something straight out of a Dr. Suess book.

Ammo the Dachshund plays in the fog with his Farmyard Friends

And truth be told, I always have a lot of farmyard fun in the fog!

Ammo the Dachshund plays in the fog with his Farmyard Friends

The damp blanket of foggy goodness seems to bring out all of my friends to play.

I’m always the first to grab a stick and entice my friends to join in the fun.

Catch me if you can ponies!

Before I could turn around to see who was joining me in this fun game of chase I was in the middle of nowhere, and the fog had covered me in it’s blanket!

I thought I might be lost.

Cricket got worried when she could no longer see my yellow coat in the pasture.

And Blitz began nickering for me so I could find my way back to my friends.

Product Review: SafetyGlo Harness for Dogs from Chewy.com

Disclaimer: This review is brought to you by Chewy.

When my friends over at Chewy.com, formally known as Mr. Chewy (they dropped the formality because we’re all friends here), contacted me about the new SafetyGlo products they are carrying on their site – I just knew I had to take them for a whirl.

Safetyglo Harness Product Review from Chewy.com via Ammo the Dachshund

The SafetyGlo products are the only ones on the market that are solar and usb chargeable. They emit a glowing light that is visible from over 500 yards away.

Perfect for keeping your pet safe on late night walks, visible at night in the back yard, and if you’re like me….on the family farm.

Safetyglo Harness Product Review from Chewy.com via Ammo the Dachshund

But before I could take the SafetyGlo harness for a spin, I had to charge it up! The easily detachable charging unit comes with a small USB cable that can be plugged into your computer for charging. Alternatively you can leave it to charge out in the sun – or simply place it on your dog while they are outside during the day and let the sun do it’s magic.

Once charged, the SafetyGlo unit easily snaps & velcros to the back of the harness.

There is also a handy on and off switch on the charger – so during the day you can switch it off.

And at night you can let it Glo!

Safetyglo Harness Product Review from Chewy.com via Ammo the Dachshund

Of course the true test is always the farm dog test….so I harnessed up and prepared to romp around the farm in my new SafetyGlo Harness.

Farmdog approved!

I’m wearing the medium SafetyGlo Harness, which fits me snuggly like a glove – it seems the sizes might run a little small, so when ordering maybe order a size up if you are unsure.

You can fetch your own SafteyGlo Products from $5.99 – $24.99 at Chewy.com!
