Scary Things

halloween dog

Seeing as tomorrow is Halloween I thought it would be fun to compile a list of 5 things that give me the heebie jeebies, and just totally make me want to hide under the bed!

Ammo’s List of Scary Things!

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

1. Over Zealous Big Dogs

It’s true, I get a little un-nerved when Big Dogs think I’m their own personal squeaky toy. It’s tough being a small dog, and sometimes certain big dogs don’t give you any respect (my pal Trooper is exempt from this category as he’s really just a big softie). But I’m always quick to remind those bigger dogs that I’m NOBODY’S SQUEAKY TOY!

Ammo's Annual Vet Visit // Ammo the Dachshund

2. Vet’s Office

It’s not the vet I dislike, it’s just the actual office. It smells like other dogs, shots, and scary things. I totally get the shakes every time I go. Honestly, do you blame me though……I lost my manhood in that place!

Ammo and the Fly

3. Flies

I don’t know what it is about that tiny little buzzing creature that strikes fear in me, but if one of those flies finds it’s way inside I spend the entire day cowering in the corner as mom runs around trying to swat it for me.

ammo the dachshund camping

4. Campfires

Even though I love to go camping, the smell of campfires and smoke are not something I’m very fond of. Call it natural instinct, call it paranoia – it doesn’t even have to be a campfire, just the smell of something smoking is enough to strike fear in me! I’ve even been known to hide in the bathtub if mom or dad burn dinner (well mostly dad!).

Ammo the Dachshund // Evening Hunting on the Farm

“What’s that sound”?

5. Gun Shots

As ironic as it is (considering my name is Ammo), the sound of a far-off gun shot on the farm is enough to send me screaming for my mom! Better safe than sorry I say!

What are your dog’s biggest fears? Ammo the Dachshund

Hanging out in Leaves

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

There is something just so wonderful about hanging out in a pile of leaves.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

The crunchy sound, the dead leafy smell (you totally know what I’m talking about), the pretty fall colors.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

I love ALL OF IT, especially the rumor I heard from Cricket the farm cat that sometimes little critters like to hang out in leaf piles too.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

And this is not the face of a cat that would lie!

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

So if you don’t mind, I’ll just spend the rest of my day hanging out in this pile of leaves – and waiting for the critters to join me. *wink*

What’s your favorite thing about a big pile of leaves? Ammo the Dachshund

Fall is in the Air

It’s that time of year when the sun sets earlier, the leaves change a pretty color, and you have to bundle up a little more on the farm! Here’s a fun little collection of photos from my recent fall fun around the farm.

Don’t you just want to jump in a great big pile of leaves and sip hot chocolate now? (well in my case just burrow under my favorite warm blanket!) Ammo the Dachshund

Fall with Martha Stewart

A couple of months ago Trooper and I got the opportunity to have a little fashion show with the new Martha Stewart Fall Pet Line, available at Petsmart.

The end result landed a photo of me on MarthaStewart.com – pretty exciting!

Martha Stewart Pets Fall Line // Ammo the Dachshund

The fact is though, mom took so many fun photos of Trooper and I enjoying our new Martha Stewart products – that we had to share all the others that didn’t make the cut!

Martha Stewart Pets Fall Line // Ammo the Dachshund

Especially since they are the PERFECT thing to put everyone in the Halloweenie mood!

Martha Stewart Pets Fall Line // Ammo the Dachshund

Honestly, what’s more Halloweenie than a dachshund dressed as a pumpkin?

Well perhaps a dachshund dressed as a pumpkin in a pile of hay!

Trooper totally had his eye on the Martha Stewart toys, and I bet he was thinking he’d get to take them home with him after our little photoshoot.

Sorry Trooper, I’ll share my Halloweenie collar with you, but these toys are mine….all mine!

What sort of things are you doing this fall to get into the Halloweenie mood?Ammo the Dachshund

Disclosure: I received products from Martha Stewart to photograph for their website, but decided to share the fun photos on my blog as well! All opinions are my own.

Mattie & Margot Stripped Collar and Leash Review & Giveaway

Mattie & Margot Stripped Collar and Leash Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My pals over at Mattie & Margot recently sent me a collar and leash from their new STRIPPED collection.

Mattie & Margot Stripped Collar and Leash Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

This collection is great because it has a lower price point (starting at $20) and comes in two different widths to fit any size dog.

Mattie & Margot Stripped Collar and Leash Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My gal pal Cricket the Cat was totally eyeing the Ice Blue color that my collar and leash set came in…..because it was oh-so-cool!

Mattie & Margot Stripped Collar and Leash Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m always on the lookout for leashes that come with these “claw” (not sure if that’s the real term for it) clasp like the STRIPPED Leash. I’m a strong believer that it’s a stronger and more durable option for a clasp than the standard snaps you see on a lot of leashes.

Mattie & Margot Stripped Collar and Leash Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The STRIPPED collection is “stripped” of the traditional ribbon adornment that most of the Mattie & Margot collars you have seen me wearing come with, ideal for the minimalist at heart and great for a less expensive (but still very durable) collar. I’ve NEVER had a Mattie & Margot collar break on me in all the years I’ve been wearing them, not even when I’m rough-housing on the farm.

You may have already caught me wearing my new Stripped collar on my Facebook page, as I’ve already been adorning myself with it’s cool blueness at work, on the farm, and lounging around my house.

You can fetch your own STRIPPED Collar or Leash from Mattie & Margot in a variety of colors and sizes starting at $20.

Tiling a Farmhouse

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I decided to lend a helping paw and help my pal Trooper on the continuing work on his soon to be new farmhouse home.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

While progress on Trooper’s new home is moving along, this weekend’s goal was to continue tiling.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I knew just what to do to help too! We started a wrestling match to make sure that all the tile was nice and secure.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

And good news, it held up just fine to our playtime antics.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

There’s still lots more work to do, and mom says we better learn how to grout soon because it’s going to be a big big project!

Don’t worry though, I’ve already started taking notes!

Betsy Farms & Minities Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I are pretty hard working farm dogs, and when we’re busy with farm chores we can work up quite the appetite. So we were thrilled when we got the chance to test out some of Betsy Farms’ Chicken Jerky Chews and Minties’ Dental Chews.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Betsy Farms‘ Chicken Jerky chews are made in the USA and do not include artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors while Minties Dental Chews are also made in the USA and free of wheat, gluten, soy, corn, artificial flavors and animal by-products.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So after running around on the farm all day Trooper and I couldn’t wait to test out our new chews.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Betsy Farms Chicken Jerky smelled delicious and was the perfect size to break into smaller bite sized pieces, because even farm dogs have to watch their weight.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m pretty sure the looks on mine and Trooper’s faces are enough to tell you how much we loved them!

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Now you may notice that Trooper and I have some nice pearly white smiles, and we’d definitely like to keep it that way!

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom is always on the lookout for healthy treats to help keep my choppers looking this clean, because we all know that farm dogs don’t always have time to brush their teeth!

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

These Minties Chews seemed to fit the bill containing five natural ingredients that work in your dog’s mouth and stomach to promote fresh breath and reduce unpleasant odors:

  • Mint promotes minty fresh breath.
  • Parsley contains enzymes that help break down odor-causing particles in the stomach.
  • Dill helps inhibit bacterial growth and helps prevent early stages of gingivitis.
  • Fennel helps control bacteria and is a natural breath freshener.
  • Chlorophyll from alfalfa balances acid levels in the stomach and helps deodorize your dog’s body.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

And guess what, even with all those fancy things to keep your teeth clean, they still taste yummy.

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Who knew keeping your teeth clean could be as easy as eating!

Betsy Farms and Minties Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So thanks to our Betsy Farms and Minties Chews Trooper and I are now energized and ready to get back to our farm duties with pearly whites to boot!

As a bonus you can save $1 off your own package of Minties Chews when you like the VetIQ Facebook Page!

A Visit from the Horse Dentist

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

This week on the farm the horses were due for their dental check-up. Trooper and I of course were on hand for moral support.

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

Because who in their right mind likes to go to the dentist? Especially when you have to wear this type of contraption on your face!

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper always tries to be Mr. Helper, offering to hold supplies – mostly towels. That dog has an unhealthy obsession with towels if you ask me! I didn’t have the heart to tell him that they aren’t necessary tools for a dental exam.

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

I on the other hand just like to wait and see if there are any loose pony teeth, because I hear the tooth fairy will shell out double for horse teeth!

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

One thing can always be certain after a visit from the horse dentist though…..

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

….Trooper and I will be sure to brush our teeth extra well to avoid having to visit the dentist ourselves! Those tools look scary! Ammo the Dachshund

Since I’m the nicest guy around I decided to share them with my own Good Buddy, Trooper!

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

These made in the USA treats are packed with healthy ingredients, so I knew I was sharing something my best friend would love. (he’s a stickler for eating healthy)

As you can see, Trooper was ecstatic when I told him he would get to help me eat these yummy Good Buddy treats.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I scarfed our cookies so fast that we didn’t realize until after that our other pal Blitz the pony was feeling a bit left out on the cookie front.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

Since these Good Buddy treats are made from Whole Wheat Flour, Rolled Oats, Canola Oil, Peanut Butter, Whey Powder, Garlic Powder, Eggs, and Dried Kelp – mom said it would be fine if we wanted to share with Blitz the pony too.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

After tasting a bite, Blitz agreed that the Peanut Butter Good Buddy cookies are better left for the dogs.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

And I won’t lie, I’m a bit relieved, because the bag is starting to weigh a bit less!

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

And I’m starting to get concerned that my buddies might need to go on a diet! Or at least find someone else’s cookies to share, because the rest are mine, all mine!

You can fetch your own Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies from Chewy.com for about $4. Ammo the Dachshund
