Adventures at the Devon Horse Show

Disclaimer: This post is brought to you by RedBarn Products. All opinions are my own, and I only share products I think you and your pets will love!

Devon Horse Show

Just as I have for the past 8 years, I took a trip to the Devon Horse Show at the end of May. Only this year I got to bring along my sister too! I guess technically she got to go last year as well (inside mom’s tummy), but I feel like when you can’t actually see the ponies – it doesn’t really count!

Devon Horse Show

While I always love sniffing new smells and seeing all the pretty ponies, sometimes Devon can get a little overwhelming for a small dog such as myself. It can get VERY crowded, especially in the evenings – and even on Grand Prix night (when the horses jump super super big fences for the chance to win big big money). Usually mom would end up carrying me around (all 20lbs of me!) when things got a little crazy, but this year we had a different option!

Devon Horse Show

Rewind to a few weeks before the Devon Horse Show, and mom decided that I needed to learn how to ride in the bottom of my sister’s stroller!

Devon Horse Show

So armed with my current favorite treats, these Vanilla Flavored Bully Slices from Redbarn Products, mom made me a comfy spot in the stroller so I could practice riding in it.

Devon Horse Show

Arguably it’s not my favorite place to be, but since these Bully Slices require some intense chewing effort on my part I was able to relax enough that mom could push me around the driveway.

Devon Horse Show

Made with natural beef these chews are a natural source of protein and antioxidants too. I enjoy snacking on them everywhere, from work to home, and even on my adventures.

Devon Horse Show

So how did I fair at the Devon Horse Show when the crowds got bigger? Well the first struggle was convincing my sister that my training chews were for me and not her!

Devon Horse Show

While I did ride around in the bottom of the stroller for a little bit, I still have some work to do to be extra comfortable in there. But it’s a start!

I much preferred to chew my bully slices under a shady tree at Devon anyway!

Devon Horse Show

You can snag your pup some Bully Slices from Redbarn Products they even come in some really fun flavors like French Toast, Peanut Butter, and Vanilla. And be sure to check out my full review on their products too!

Hopefully by this time next year I’ll be a real pro at riding under that stroller!

Dog’s Day at Devon

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

Just like every year for the past 7 years I made sure not to miss the Devon Horse Show last week! Devon is one of the oldest and largest multi-breed horse competitions in the United States and every year it never disappoints with tasty food to eat, fun horse events to see, and of course….

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

….people to watch! I’ve become quite the expert at people watching, after all the things you humans do are so fascinating sometimes!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

After hobnobbing with some of the equestrian elite I decided to hit the pavement and explore the grounds!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

Devon has always been the go-to place for all the cool dogs in town, and I even ran into this fellow who was helping to run an art gallery on the grounds!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

Then I ran into this fine looking dude, Buddy, who looked an awful lot like someone I know. I just can’t place who…. 😉

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

After some obligatory butt-sniffing we became fast friends! Until we meet again Buddy!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show

Another successful year at Devon in the books! I can’t wait until next year when I get to bring my little sister along to enjoy it too. (although I guess technically she did come along this year too….but she couldn’t really appreciate all the sights!) 😉

Are there any outings you take your dog on every single year?Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

A Dog’s Day at the Devon Horse Show

As per my yearly tradition I always hit up the Devon Horse Show at least once while is running. Devon is one of the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competitions in the United States today, and as a bonus it’s VERY dog friendly!

So last week on Memorial Day I decided to take a trip to Devon, where the who’s who of dogs (and horses) always are!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

The shopping is always upscale and unique (if not always a little out of my budget), but as a dog it’s fun to actually take a tour around shops like Anthropologie!

I even happened across this fine dining set just for dogs from the Furnished Paw. I’m pretty sure I’d have to own a tux to dine like this.

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

While the shopping left me wishing my income was a bit higher, what I really came for was to watch the horses! (dressed in my finest of course)

While there are lots of exciting events to watch at Devon (and things even non-horse lovers can appreciate), mom and I always get a kick out of watching the exhibitions. This year we made sure to attend so that we could watch the carriage racing and shetland pony races.

So I staked out the best spot along the arena and watched these two exciting events.

The cart racing was fun to watch, and it left me dreaming of one day having a tiny pony just my size so I could ride around on a cart too! Wouldn’t that be fun!

The Shetland Pony Racing was my favorite though. And don’t worry, no kids were injured!

It was a pretty hot day when I attended Devon, so between events I napped near the arena (and sipped on plenty of cool water).

After we were done watching the races I strolled the grounds, where I met lots of other friendly dogs.

I even checked out some of the (highly decorated) stables.

And of course right before we headed home mom and I had to stop for a lemon stick. Because if you go to Devon, you have to have a lemon stick! (It’s a rule)Ammo the Dachshund

Went to the Devon Horse Show, to see the Sheep?

The Devon Horse Show is a yearly tradition for me. In fact, I’ve been attending every year since I was about 12 weeks old. If you have no idea what Devon is – here’s a little history lesson for you:

In 1896, the Devon Horse Show started as a one-day show. Now, years later, it has become the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States. It is internationally recognized, USEF-A rated, and one of the most exciting events to happen in Chester County. While it draws top competitors from around the world, the show continues to reflect the local traditions and lifestyles of the Philadelphia Main Line.

Needless to say it’s full of fancy people in big hats, dogs, horses, carriages, funnel cake, amusement rides, shopping, and apparently sheep! Yes, that’s right sheep.

See my pal Trooper (the Australian Shepherd/Labrador) told me that there was going to be sheep herding at Devon this year. I knew that was something not to be missed. And since Trooper was too tired to come, I video taped most of it for him.

I guess it was pretty cool – although I’d still take my groundhog holes over herding around some sheep. To each his own.

After the sheep herding demo I was pretty famished, so I headed over to the concessions to grab some funnel cake.

Then I indulged mom and did a little shopping with her at Anthropologie.

Mom bought this:

Which I would have been much more thrilled about had it come with cookies in it. Ok, now I’m drooling.
