My New Adventure as a Big Brother

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

Over the weekend mom and I arrived at the farm to find a celebration! Mom said it was a baby shower for my soon-to-be little sister, although the way I saw it was a celebration of me becoming a big brother!

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

It was the perfect combination of ponies….

….and food! (My favorite).

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

Of course it wouldn’t have been a celebration if I didn’t break of my bowtie! The brother-to-be always has to look his best.

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

Even though my buddy Minnow was just outside in the pasture, we certainly had to include him in the festivities too. So he was inside in spirit for a pin-the-baby-on-the-pony game.

Eventually it was time for my favorite part of the day! Opening presents!

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

I’m an expert at gift unwrapping and I was super excited to see what all my friends and family brought to celebrate my “becoming a big brother”.

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

There were lots of sweet dachshund (and pony) related gifts that were opened but I was starting to realize why mom said it was a “baby shower”.

Eventually Trooper and I started to loose interest in the baby gear so I decided to checkout what fun games there might be for me to play instead.

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

I was in luck, because not only was there was a stinky inspired game just for me, but it also included candy bars in a “guess which candy bar/dirty diaper game”. I may or may not have gotten in big trouble for trying to steal one of them! 😉

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

I sulked for a bit about not being involved as much as I would have liked in this “baby shower”, but mom told me not to worry…

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

…for she says soon I’ll have to test all the baby gear for my sister before she comes. And something tells me mom and dad will be practicing carrying me around in this baby carrier pretty soon!

Ammo the Dachshund Celebrates Becoming a Big Brother

After the shower I helped gift all our special friends these cute little horse shoes to show how much I appreciated them coming to celebrate my little sister.

Mom, Dad, Minnow, Me and Boomerang (who just happened to be in another pasture for this picture) are super excited for my little sister to get here! I can’t wait to show her where all the groundhog holes are on the farm, she’s going to love it!Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Simple Pleasures

While I share pretty much everything on this blog, there are also plenty of things in my life’s adventures that don’t make it into a blog post. Not because I don’t want to share, and not because they aren’t “share-worthy”, but because there just aren’t enough hours in the day to share every image mom and dad snap of me. But since life is all about those simple pleasures, I thought I’d collect a few of them from the past 2 weeks to share with you today! From helping mom frame, to hanging out with my ponies, and even rolling in the stinkiest thing I could find…those simple pleasures are what makes life so fun!

Water on the Beach

Water on the Beach // Ammo the Dachshund has fun on the Farm

A few weeks ago this interesting looking pool* showed up in my beach ponies’ arena.

I thought, well isn’t this nice, how did they know that no beach is complete without some “ocean”. Just as I was about to take a dip I had a thought…

Water on the Beach // Ammo the Dachshund has fun on the Farm

…what if the real fun was UNDER the pool? Naturally I’m an inquisitive fellow, and you can’t help but wonder.

Water on the Beach // Ammo the Dachshund has fun on the Farm

So a digging we will go!

Water on the Beach // Ammo the Dachshund has fun on the Farm

Sadly the only excitement was in actually digging the hole. So it looks like my new pool will just have to wait for warmer days this summer when I can sun bathe on my beach and take a dip afterwards.

And I think I’ll have to share my pool pass too, because Blitz has been waiting patiently for his turn next!

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

My fun day in the snow after winter storm Jonas last weekend didn’t end after I helped my dad dig us out, because my ponies on the farm needed to be cared for too!

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

So Trooper and I bundled up and got ready to help with all the farm chores!

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

Once all my ponies were fed, and the stalls were mucked, it was time to have a little fun.

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

And just like that we were off! (bet you can’t even spot me way up ahead of Trooper…he can never catch me!)

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

Boomerang is always our first stop, because he’s ALWAYS up for a good time in the snow.

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

His toothy grin pretty much says it all, and I’m pretty sure he wishes it was a snow day everyday.

Yup, Boomer definitely knows how to have a good time in the snow!

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

Two can play at that game Boomer! Because I know how to have a good time in the snow too!

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

Even my pal Minnow wanted to get in on the action.

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper did pretty well keeping up with Minnow despite the deep snow…

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

….I of course tried my little heart out to keep up too, but lets face it, 26+ inches of snow is not exactly friendly to us short dogs. #shortdogproblems

Winter Storm Jonas on the Farm with Ammo the Dachshund

So I relegated myself to the spectators side of the fence to get a better view of the pony show.

And my pal Minnow did not disappoint! He put on a grand show for me in the snow.

Overall it was a perfect snow day on the farm with my ponies. I can’t wait to do it again soon! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure

Over the weekend I took my annual trip to the Fairhill International Event in Maryland. “Eventing” is the ultimate test of a horse and rider and has been referred to as the Triathlon of equestrian sport. Through tests in dressage, cross country, and show jumping the horse and rider work together to show that they can compete in the most demanding and highest levels of equestrian sports.

At Fairhill the highest level to watch is the CCI 3*. Horses and riders who do well in the 3* event may qualify to compete internationally or at the Olympics or World Championships. Pretty cool huh?

Well as much as I was excited to watch some of the top riders and horses in the world compete in the 3*, I was even more excited to see some of my old friends!

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

My very special friends from the World Famous Chincoteague Pony Drill Team were visiting from Chincoteague to perform with their special ponies!

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

Before I even made it out to watch the cross county course, I parked myself in the stands to cheer on my friends. Did you know that some the ponies are even descendants of Misty…and that pony second from the right…we’ll she’s my pal Blitz’s full sister, “Surf n’Turf”.

I had a blast watching their amazing choreographed drill.

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time to head over to the Cross Country Jump Course where the 3* riders were competing. Can you believe that I’ve never actually watched a horse do Cross Country before? Usually when I visit the Fairhill event I go on the Stadium Jumping day, which means all the jumps that the horses go over are contained inside an arena.

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

Well on the Cross Country course the horses and riders race through miles of terrain over HUGE elaborate jumps like this one. Can you believe they jump stuff like this? Which by the way, this one was pretty tame compared to some of the other jumps.

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

As you can imagine the horses that compete in these events are in peak physical condition. I was in awe of their athletic ability.

I really enjoyed Cross Country Day and I loved being able to hike around the course watching my favorite riders race over jumps!

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

At the Fairhill Event there is lots to see and do (and shop for), including many food choices too….yum!

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

I actually drew quite a spectacle at the event with my fancy coats, and my warm snood (it was a pretty chilly day). Not only did many people stop to take my picture, but even these Alpacas couldn’t quite figure out why I had so many layers on.

Well if I had fur like them maybe I wouldn’t have to wear all these layers!

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

Before heading home I made sure to squeeze in as much fun as I could. I played in the straw…

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

…I rode a pony (sort of)…

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

…I rolled in the Fairhill grass (which by the way this Maryland grass isn’t much different from my Pennsylvania grass….just saying’)….

Fairhill International Cross Country Adventure with Ammo the Dachshund

….and I even dug a hole (shhh! don’t tell anyone!).

And don’t worry, I made sure not to dig it right smack in the middle of the Cross Country Course. (I’m not that evil).

Until next year Fairhill!Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Dachshund Goes Sledding with Ponies

When the winter rolls around I sometimes (like most of you) spend a little more time indoors. Because honestly, I’d much rather be warm and toasty then freezing my tail off! But when it snows, that all changes, because one of my favorite activities involves a fresh dusting of snow and some of my furry four-legged friends.

Ammo the Dachshund // Sledding with Ponies

It’s time to go sledding with my ponies!

Ammo the Dachshund // Sledding with Ponies

All I need is a warm winter coat, an inner tube, and a willing pony! Good thing Boomerang and Blitz were more than happy to let me hitch a ride.

I hear even more snow is headed my way this Saturday……AND I CAN’T WAIT!

What sort of things do you do for fun in the snow with your dog? Ammo the Dachshund

Post Turkey Hangover

Thanksgiving may have been last week, but that doesn’t mean I’ve recovered from it just yet! Here’s just how I celebrated this year…

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

I kicked off my Thanksgiving with a trip to the farm – and as you can see I had snow on Turkey Day!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

As lovely as I find the snow, I was thankful that Trooper’s new house has heat – because I was looking forward to being warm!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper spent most of the Thanksgiving morning doing this – I suspect he just didn’t want to share his new Puller toys with me….but that’s ok, I’m still thankful for my best friend – even if he doesn’t like to share!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Eventually Trooper stepped away from his Puller hoarding to share some Canidae cookies with me, YUM!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

And I had an obligatory Thanksgiving potty break. 🙂

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Now even though we didn’t have a Thanksgiving meal at Trooper’s new house (as there is still lots of construction to be done), that didn’t stop me from hanging around in the kitchen.

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Because regardless of wether there is food or not, the kitchen is where you’re supposed to be on Thanksgiving day!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Before I knew it though it was time to wave goodbye to my ponies and head off on my next Thanksgiving adventure.

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

At Mom Mom & Pop Pop’s house I started where I had left off at the farm….hanging around the kitchen.

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Only this time there was an actual turkey!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

Thanksgiving should be renamed “Torture Dogs with a Big Plate of Meat Day”, because it is TORTURE!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

And even though I didn’t get to have more than a bite or two of turkey, I did get to enjoy my own feast complete with doggie stew that came with my Barkbox this month!

Post Turkey Hangover // Thanksgiving // Ammo the Dachshund

It comes at no surprise that my post turkey day self looked like this. But boy was it a good day with my family! Ammo the Dachshund

Adventures at Ludwigs

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the Labor Day Weekend me and my best pony pal Minnow, the Painting Pony, attended the Ludwigs Corner Horse Show.

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

Our goal, to make as many people smile as we could!

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

My pal Minnow is pretty good at helping us draw a crowd, I mean just look at his super model pose!

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

And when he starts to paint everyone can’t help but to be captivated!

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

Myself included, as I love watching Minnow create his special works of art.

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

Minnow painted several works of art throughout the day which should be available on his website very soon.

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

Finally it was my turn to perform, and I showed off some of my expert hoop jumping skills.

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

I even made it through the flaming hoop of death…..unharmed!

I also shared a few of my circus stunts like rolling my barrel….

….and playing dead!

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

And for my final heroic stunt, I dove head first though a solid hoop (don’t worry, I wore my helmet for safety!)

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

After our first performance of the day a nasty thunderstorm rolled through. Minnow went to wait out the storm on the horse trailer while I hunkered down in our tent.

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

Eventually the sun came back out for just long enough for Minnow to create a few more paintings, even if the crowds had died down pretty drastically!

Adventures at Ludwigs // Ammo the Dachshund

By the end of the day I was pretty beat! But I’m pretty sure Minnow and I accomplished our goal to make everyone smile! Ammo the Dachshund
