It’s Fri-Yay! And today I leave you with something to make you smile for the rest of the weekend. Well, mom says it makes her smile – personally it makes me wish I was outside rolling in a pile of stink instead of sitting in a bubble bath with my sister. To each his own.
At least one of us is enjoying it.

Soap. I have a love/hate relationship with it. As in when I smell like soap (instead of my preferred odor of stink) my mom wants to snuggle with me more, strangers stroke my glorious fur, and I can coax a cookie out of the ups man that much easier.
So when my new friends at The Honest Kitchen sent me one of their new Sparkle Bars to try, I figured why not give it whirl.
Joining me on my bath time excursion was Mr. Crab. He somehow avoided the whole being lathered up in soap thing. I must remember to ask him later what the secret is!
I tolerate bath time quite well. I’ve even figured out that if I use my sad puppy dog eyes then I’m more likely to get a whole bunch of cookies in the process. It’s the little things.
Mom applied the Sparkle Bar directly to my furs. I hear that these bars are hand-made from a base of organic goat’s milk from a family farm (holla to my farming friends) in the Deep South, and blended with olive and coconut oil plus precious, functional herbs and botanicals that gently nourish the different needs of the skin and coat. All I know is it got me S O A P Y.
The Honest Kitchen sells several different kinds of the Sparkle Bars, but I got to test the Lavender, Cedar, Juniper & Rosemary Sparkle Bar. It is their most aromatic shampoo bar, and I could even smell it through the packaging when it arrived!
I was surprised to see how sudsy the bar was able to get me, even with just a few passes, one bar should last for about 18 baths for a 30lb dog.
Until recently I hadn’t really ever used bar soap to take a bath. Most of the time I had used liquid shampoo (as probably the general dog population does), but did you know that old-fashioned liquid shampoos create a larger carbon footprint, because they are bulky and heavy to ship. Regular shampoo also requires loads of plastic packaging, which usually means reliance on fossil fuels and questionable recyclability after use, not to mention the risk of leaks and spills from a broken bottle! After learning how liquid shampoos are not as good for the environment I was more than happy to grab a bar instead!
In contrast, Sparkle Shampoo Bars are like ‘dehydrated’ shampoo – compact, free of wasteful “water weight”, efficient to ship and minimal on the packaging front too. Which comes in handy when all you have are paws and a set of chompers to open the box with!
The best part is, they smell super good (according to human noses at least), but I’m still waiting for The Honest Kitchen to come out with a “Rabbit Poop Scented Sparkle Bar”. I know lots of dog friends that would pay good money for that!
After my bath (ok, it was 2 baths over the course of a week…I had a lot of stink to roll in) I was smelling oh-so-fresh.
Of course I didn’t think it was right to hog all of that wonderful smelling Sparkle Bar all to myself, so I decided to share…

When the weather starts to warm up I always know that I will be spending a lot more time in the bathtub than I’d really care to.
Arguably it’s not my favorite thing in the World, but I like to think I’m pretty tolerable of the deed.
And it’s really not that BAD, especially since mom always provides cookies. A bath without cookies is like rolling in dead worms with a coat on – pointless – and precisely what got me into this mess in the first place.
After bath time I’m left smelling like sunshine and daisies – not what super awesome dogs that dig holes in the backyard and hunt for bunnies should be smelling like. So it’s best to rub that smell off as quickly as possible.
Pretty soon I’ll be dry and looking for my next big thing to roll in. This time I’m thinking horse manure and kitty litter – if I plan it just right then mom won’t have time to give me a bath before we go to work. Always gotta be thinking! Smell ya later, xoxo
It’s inevitable. As soon as my Birthday rolls around my mom starts talking about how cute I was as a puppy – eventually leading her to break out the dreaded photo album. You know the one – where all of your embarrassing baby photos are on display to the World. So in the efforts of beating my mom to the punch, I thought I’d just share my baby photos myself – in the hopes of avoiding the embarrassing ones!
Here’s a picture of me at about 9 weeks old, I was a stud muffin even back then!
In the beginning I had a “thing” for Monkeys, well until ultimately they taunted me which led the their gruesome demise. I’ll spare you the details.
I began perfecting my “cute face” pretty early on, so when I got older it was much easier to get my way with everything.
I admit, I wasn’t all “rainbows & sunshine” all the time. Especially when in December my parents brought a tree inside and then expected me to do my business outside. Seriously?
Luckily I always had a partner in crime. My pal Trooper taught me everything I know – and SOMETIMES I even shared my bones with him. Oh, true friendship.
Trooper and I spent most of my youth snuggling and wrestling at the shop. Luckily, not much has changed in 3 years.
Speaking of friends, we can’t forget my pony friends. From the very beginning we shared a special bond.
My adventurous side appeared pretty quickly too and I had big plans for my future from the start.
And obviously most of those adventures involved getting as dirty as possible. Dirt is definitely a sign of a good adventure.
My mom of course always had other plans for me.
Well, there you have it – my little trip down memory lane (complete with naked puppy-in-the-bathtub-picture). Sometimes I miss those carefree puppy days, but then I remember that there is still so much I want to try and do ahead. I can’t wait for many more years of adventures!
