Hanging out in Leaves

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

There is something just so wonderful about hanging out in a pile of leaves.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

The crunchy sound, the dead leafy smell (you totally know what I’m talking about), the pretty fall colors.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

I love ALL OF IT, especially the rumor I heard from Cricket the farm cat that sometimes little critters like to hang out in leaf piles too.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

And this is not the face of a cat that would lie!

So if you don’t mind, I’ll just spend the rest of my day hanging out in this pile of leaves – and waiting for the critters to join me. *wink*

What’s your favorite thing about a big pile of leaves? Ammo the Dachshund

Fall is in the Air

It’s that time of year when the sun sets earlier, the leaves change a pretty color, and you have to bundle up a little more on the farm! Here’s a fun little collection of photos from my recent fall fun around the farm.

Don’t you just want to jump in a great big pile of leaves and sip hot chocolate now? (well in my case just burrow under my favorite warm blanket!) Ammo the Dachshund

Fall with Martha Stewart

A couple of months ago Trooper and I got the opportunity to have a little fashion show with the new Martha Stewart Fall Pet Line, available at Petsmart.

The end result landed a photo of me on MarthaStewart.com – pretty exciting!

Martha Stewart Pets Fall Line // Ammo the Dachshund

The fact is though, mom took so many fun photos of Trooper and I enjoying our new Martha Stewart products – that we had to share all the others that didn’t make the cut!

Martha Stewart Pets Fall Line // Ammo the Dachshund

Especially since they are the PERFECT thing to put everyone in the Halloweenie mood!

Martha Stewart Pets Fall Line // Ammo the Dachshund

Honestly, what’s more Halloweenie than a dachshund dressed as a pumpkin?

Well perhaps a dachshund dressed as a pumpkin in a pile of hay!

Trooper totally had his eye on the Martha Stewart toys, and I bet he was thinking he’d get to take them home with him after our little photoshoot.

Sorry Trooper, I’ll share my Halloweenie collar with you, but these toys are mine….all mine!

What sort of things are you doing this fall to get into the Halloweenie mood?Ammo the Dachshund

Disclosure: I received products from Martha Stewart to photograph for their website, but decided to share the fun photos on my blog as well! All opinions are my own.

Bringing the Beach Home

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

Last week some farm machinery showed up on the farm, and along with it came some sand!

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

Word on the street was that the ponies were getting sand footing for their arena.

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

In translation…..HOLY COW I WAS GETTING A BEACH!

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I were quite intrigued by our newly found farm beach (as we dubbed it).

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

You may already know just how much I absolutely love the beach, especially running across it bay watch style.

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

And the fact that I can now run on the beach and also hunt groundhogs at the SAME PLACE……seriously I think I’m in heaven.

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

Once the arena farm beach was officially finished Trooper and I got to be the first ones to test it out.

Bringing the Beach Home // New Arena Footing // Ammo the Dachshund

And seeing as how it’s a pretty big arena farm beach, we both agreed that we should share our new sand with the ponies too.

Blitz and Boomerang seem to be just as thrilled with the new farm addition. Boomer even took a celebratory bay watch run just like me….

So what fun things do you think I should do in my new farm beach? Ammo the Dachshund

Tiling a Farmhouse

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I decided to lend a helping paw and help my pal Trooper on the continuing work on his soon to be new farmhouse home.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

While progress on Trooper’s new home is moving along, this weekend’s goal was to continue tiling.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I knew just what to do to help too! We started a wrestling match to make sure that all the tile was nice and secure.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

And good news, it held up just fine to our playtime antics.

Tiling a Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

There’s still lots more work to do, and mom says we better learn how to grout soon because it’s going to be a big big project!

Don’t worry though, I’ve already started taking notes!

A Visit from the Horse Dentist

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

This week on the farm the horses were due for their dental check-up. Trooper and I of course were on hand for moral support.

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

Because who in their right mind likes to go to the dentist? Especially when you have to wear this type of contraption on your face!

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper always tries to be Mr. Helper, offering to hold supplies – mostly towels. That dog has an unhealthy obsession with towels if you ask me! I didn’t have the heart to tell him that they aren’t necessary tools for a dental exam.

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

I on the other hand just like to wait and see if there are any loose pony teeth, because I hear the tooth fairy will shell out double for horse teeth!

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

One thing can always be certain after a visit from the horse dentist though…..

A visit with the Horse Dentist // Ammo the Dachshund

….Trooper and I will be sure to brush our teeth extra well to avoid having to visit the dentist ourselves! Those tools look scary! Ammo the Dachshund

Sharing Cookies with Good Buddies

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

When Chewy.com sent me some of their Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies recently I knew exactly what to do with them.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

Since I’m the nicest guy around I decided to share them with my own Good Buddy, Trooper!

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

These made in the USA treats are packed with healthy ingredients, so I knew I was sharing something my best friend would love. (he’s a stickler for eating healthy)

As you can see, Trooper was ecstatic when I told him he would get to help me eat these yummy Good Buddy treats.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I scarfed our cookies so fast that we didn’t realize until after that our other pal Blitz the pony was feeling a bit left out on the cookie front.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

Since these Good Buddy treats are made from Whole Wheat Flour, Rolled Oats, Canola Oil, Peanut Butter, Whey Powder, Garlic Powder, Eggs, and Dried Kelp – mom said it would be fine if we wanted to share with Blitz the pony too.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

After tasting a bite, Blitz agreed that the Peanut Butter Good Buddy cookies are better left for the dogs.

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

And I won’t lie, I’m a bit relieved, because the bag is starting to weigh a bit less!

Chewy.com Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

And I’m starting to get concerned that my buddies might need to go on a diet! Or at least find someone else’s cookies to share, because the rest are mine, all mine!

You can fetch your own Good Buddy Peanut Butter Cookies from Chewy.com for about $4. Ammo the Dachshund

Whenever it’s time to work on training the ponies I’m never too far as I love offering encouraging words to my ponies as they learn new skills and tricks.

Watch This // Training Horses Through Mimicking // Ammo the Dachshund

My buddy Boomerang here is learning how to be more comfortable on a teeter totter.

Watch This // Training Horses Through Mimicking // Ammo the Dachshund

Sometimes though, the ponies learn best by watching someone else do it first. So I offer up my skills, and tell Boomerang to watch this as I plod effortlessly across the teeter totter. In theory, watching someone else do it helps my ponies to realize it’s not as scary as it seems.

Although it would also help if Boomerang was actually paying attention instead of sneaking grass behind me! Sigh. Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

It’s no secret that I love spending time at the lake during the summer.

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

But did you know that my pony friends from the farm also enjoy relaxing at the lake on hot summer days?

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

While I’ve been to the lake with my ponies many times before, this time I decided to find out what it was like to swim with them! My favorite pony Minnow offered up his back to take me for a swim around the lake.

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

And since ponies don’t come equipped with seat belts, mom had to come along too to make sure I didn’t accidentally fall in (not to worry though, I wore my life vest at all times too).

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

My pal Minnow is actually a Chincoteague Pony and he was born wild on the Island of Assateague. Which if you know the story of the Chincoteague Ponies, then you may know that as a young pony Minnow made the swim across the Chincoteague Channel during Pony Penning Week when he was just a young foal. So if anyone knows how to swim, it’s my pal Minnow.

And I have to say, swimming on the back of a pony is a heck of a lot easier than swimming in the lake on your own. I think it’s going to have to be my preferred method of transportation on the lake from now on!

So thanks Minnow, for taking me on my maiden pony swimming voyage! I hope to have many more in my future! Ammo the Dachshund

P.S. Thanks to my pals from My Life, Naturally for taking some of the photos in this post!

New York or Bust

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the 4th of July weekend I packed up my ponies and headed north 5 hours to New York!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

After so many pit-stops I was fully expecting to end up in the big apple, but instead I ended up in the middle of nowhere at a horse campground!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I unpacked my ponies and tucked them in for the night….

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

…and pitched my tent for yet another fun weekend of camping!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I may or may not have hogged all the sleeping bags in the night. At least I was comfy!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

When I awoke the next morning it became apparent that my ponies had made the long journey to New York to compete on a dog agility course! (at least that’s what it looked like to me)

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

It had a teeter totter….

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

…and some sort of porcupine looking things…

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

…and chickens? Ok well maybe it was the advanced dog agility course, which would explain why I’ve never seen any of these obstacles at my training classes.

Regardless my ponies were super brave and attempted each and every one of these challenging obstacles over the weekend!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I had a relaxing weekend watching them perform from the comfort of my favorite seat in the car. I even had my portable fan going to keep me cool.

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I even got to pack in some tanning during my weekend in New York. And before I knew it we were on the road again headed back home to Pennsylvania.

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

And the good news is, we only got one flat tire on the way home! (not to worry, I’m an expert at changing tires).

What sort of adventures did your dog have over the 4th of July weekend? Ammo the Dachshund
