Scary Things

Seeing as tomorrow is Halloween I thought it would be fun to compile a list of 5 things that give me the heebie jeebies, and just totally make me want to hide under the bed!

Ammo’s List of Scary Things!

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

1. Over Zealous Big Dogs

It’s true, I get a little un-nerved when Big Dogs think I’m their own personal squeaky toy. It’s tough being a small dog, and sometimes certain big dogs don’t give you any respect (my pal Trooper is exempt from this category as he’s really just a big softie). But I’m always quick to remind those bigger dogs that I’m NOBODY’S SQUEAKY TOY!

2. Vet’s Office

It’s not the vet I dislike, it’s just the actual office. It smells like other dogs, shots, and scary things. I totally get the shakes every time I go. Honestly, do you blame me though……I lost my manhood in that place!

Ammo and the Fly

3. Flies

I don’t know what it is about that tiny little buzzing creature that strikes fear in me, but if one of those flies finds it’s way inside I spend the entire day cowering in the corner as mom runs around trying to swat it for me.

4. Campfires

Even though I love to go camping, the smell of campfires and smoke are not something I’m very fond of. Call it natural instinct, call it paranoia – it doesn’t even have to be a campfire, just the smell of something smoking is enough to strike fear in me! I’ve even been known to hide in the bathtub if mom or dad burn dinner (well mostly dad!).

“What’s that sound”?

5. Gun Shots

As ironic as it is (considering my name is Ammo), the sound of a far-off gun shot on the farm is enough to send me screaming for my mom! Better safe than sorry I say!

  1. Our little girl, Arianna (a Rat Terrier) is also afraid of big dogs (she’s been attacked in the past;) Flyswatters; vacuums; thunder/gun-shots; and mom or dad leaving the house without her!!! While she may be taller than you, she is about your size.

  2. Cocoa is afraid of flapping flags and grill covers. Mostly wind, rain, wet grass and COLD air in the winter! Do you see a pattern here? I carry her out to potty, she runs back in the dog door!

    • Hehe! My mom says thank goodness I’m not afraid of the rain or cold – I guess being a farm dog makes you toughen up fast to the elements. 🙂

  3. Ammo, maybe it is a Doxie thing, but my Sambo could have made this same list as you have. I think gun shots would have to be top of the list though. He has to go and hide under the bed when I begin to start supper because he is afraid there will be smoke. Otherwise Sambo is very brave like you. 🙂

  4. Ammo – I totally understand and sympathize with all of these except one. Flies??!! Really Ammo; what’s up with that?! Have you ever been stung by a bee? Maybe you associate that with small flying insects. Well, it takes a brave superhero to admit his fears. XXX

    • Funny but bees don’t bother me (even though I have been stung before) mom thinks maybe I’m confused about the fact that they can’t hurt me. But it’s seriously my worst nightmare when one gets in the house!

  5. My dachshunds, Heidi, doesn’t like big dogs. She thinks they want to eat her. 2. The vet – she cowers under the bench and shakes; 3. fireworks, gunshots and thunder; 4. heavy rain.

  6. Fireworks for sure!! Lainey doesn’t like the garbage truck – she can hear him far down the street and just barks and barks (not scared but she wants to get him). Phoebe isn’t fond of the UPS/FedEx delivery man. She hears him and barks non-stop. He throws “scary” boxes over the fence and she is the first to report if there’s a package when mom gets home from work!! 🙂 Love my two little Doxie girls!

  7. Perhaps it is a Doxie thing. Rosie does not like big dogs. Now that she is about 80 percent blind, it seems as though her little world is getting smaller and smaller, but she is getting braver and braver. She hates the vet office. Shakes so bad, I think she may just have a stroke…and then give me a stroke. Lastly, Rosie is particular where she urinates. The grass must be dry, never wet. She does not like her feets wet.

  8. My Benny is terrified if food gets smoking in the house. He runs back and forth, from in the kitchen to the hall. I thought he was the only one that did that, his brothers and sister don’t, just him. And he looks a lot like you.
