The Hunt for My Missing Collar

It’s true, on Monday night I lost my collar somewhere on the farm. My pretty one from the Polka Dog Line at Target, complete with my new Blanket ID tag, and my new Cropscotch tag, and even my two new Rubit Clips. Sigh, I was sort of in the dog house when I told mom I had lost all of those things at once. And the worst part was, I couldn’t even remember where I lost it.

So the next day mom and I set out to search the farm for my collar. WE LOOKED EVERYWHERE! Needless to say with 20 acres to search it didn’t turn up.

Then, in a sudden turn of events that day, I accidentally lost my back-up collar! I must have been so engrossed in digging out some local groundhogs that it slipped off my neck. This time we were able to find my collar nearby one of the holes, which made us come to the conclusion that my other collar must be down one of the holes too!

So the very next day we set out on a digging mission (oh happy day) to find my collar.

Armed with shovels and the super strength of my digging paws the mission was simple – dig up groundhog holes!

The whole time I just kept thinking those pesky groundhogs were parading around down there with my prized collar (I am sort of a fashion icon).

I worked myself up into a frenzy over them wearing my collar and ended up doing most of the digging, surprise surprise.

But despite my best digging efforts I was unable to locate my lost collar. Tear. I can’t bear the thought of those groundhogs with something of mine!

But the very worst part was, when we were all done, mom filled in all of my holes!!!! This is just horrible, I’m going to have to pull double digging duty tomorrow to un-dig them all. Sigh. Ammo the Dachshund

  1. Ammo, maybe you will stumble upon it playing with Trooper. That is funny though thinking about the groundhogs wearing your collar down in their holes.

  2. Oh noooo Ammo – hope you find it, but if not let me know, we can’t have Ammo without his blanket ID! 🙂

    • I know! I feel really bad that I lost my brand-new Blanket ID, Mom says I am very much in the doghouse! (can you believe I’ve never lost a collar before too!) I keep looking for it every time I’m at the farm, but so far it has yet to turn up…..I just know those groundhogs are out there parading around in my collar.

  3. Ammo, have you and your parents talked about maybe putting your tags on a harness? My guy could slip out of his collars (although he said they just fell off), and lost two sets of tags before we got him a harness. Once he got used to it it didn’t bother him any more than the collar did and he never lost tags ever again. Just a suggestion.

    • I don’t loose my stuff all the time (this post is actually from a few years ago) but mom worries if I kept a harness on while on the farm I would get caught on something. Especially since I like to go underground a lot! But it is a good suggestion (if I wasn’t into so many things on the farm)

    • Our Maw Maw kept a harness on her Doxie Hans & he ended up with a rash from it! He was outdoors a lot & possibly with the hot Texas summers it was just too much! Just thought I’d let you know ?

    • Yeah, I’m not too keen on keeping a harness on 24/7, seems like there could be many reasons why it’s not the best idea. But it may depend on the dog and the type of harness too. For me it’s much safer to go without one.
